I'm sorry you feel deflated Meg, from the application process to the academy it's kind of a roller coaster isn't it, I imagine I will be like you when (staying positive haha) when! my new line manager calls, re: medical. I'm curious about it but not worried as I'm pretty healthy altho have cut out my evening glass of wine and comfort foods (cheese lol) lost half a stone!! Which could be due to nerves/waiting. I totally understand how you feel, it's like dangling a carrot :)
You're in, you've passed and this is just a formality :) you'll be fine.. I keep on saying "choo choo" and telling anyone that'll listen that I'm going to be on the trains soon.. my son thinks I'll be on Thomas the tank ;) so keep your chin up, seeing the doc' obviously means they want you so they're going to the trouble of seeking further advice, if it was anything they didn't want I'm sure they would have advised you and moved on. Don't worry :) hard I know when you want it that bad :)

That's brilliant Kdouglass. Meg have you started yet how is it going? So I've been away this weekend and have a missed call when I checked voicemail tonight from the Manager asking me to call her. She rang me Saturday so hope she has not offered the position to anyone else as I shall be calling her in the morning. Will let you know how that goes fingers crossed.

Good stuff :) very excited :) it's all happening :)

So happy for you all. I had my medical last week and it's nothing to worry about just a urine test for drugs and alcohol and a few questions about your past medical history. I was in the room no more than 15mins. Are any of yous on Facebook? I'm so excited to start training.

I've sent you a private message KDOuglass

I couldn't find you on Facebook, and now can't find my private messages on here.

Have you heard anything about your medical yet?

I received my travel card to use during training earlier this week.

I've not had anything back from my Medical, that was 8 days ago. I assume everything is fine as I'm not on anything haha, no news is good news :D did say one get any medical correspondence? I've not received my travel card yet. I assume I'll get mine at the start of next week.
Was advised that it can be up to two weeks training in York then two weeks shadowing on the train (possibly back shift 4-12)

Hi

This too has happened to me. I sent an email to recruitment last week asking when I may expect to hear anything and how long I may have to wait. I have had no reply. It's just my current job I have to give a months notice and would like to know something. Please let me know if you hear anything. Thank you

Good luck in getting a reply - they don't seem to reply to their emails!

Keep trying I rang mine and there was no answer, but she rang me straight back. The other thing is they respond to text messages. And definitely do it cos it is worth it.

Which depot is this for? Most of the duty managers for east coast tend to have on call duties so depending on the time of the day, I would try them at around 10/11am if they are on early duty they tend to be tied up with calls from the crews.

I'd give the recruitment team an email and explain that you've tried to re-contact or get in touch with the people team at York, they're very helpful.
Just finished the 1st week of training and looking forward to next week then shadowing for two weeks :)

Railpem, K.Milne, just wonder, what contracts have you been offered? I have been offered only 3 months contract for now, as nothing different available..... happy, but a bit confused now really, as 3 months go so quick and its natural I think, that I have a doubt if is it worth to leave permanent role for 12 weeks position.., as no job security..

Well I have got a permanent part time contract. I wanted full time but she said there is always overtime to make my hours up to full time. My only drawback is that I have to work every weekend. There is another girl who has come in on temporary but it is more than likely that will become permanent as the amount of training you are put through why would they bother. If they are not going to keep you. The only drawback with temporary is that your hours can change all of the time as the permanent staff may decide that they like your hours and you would then get bumped off your shifts onto different shifts and that could happen every 12 weeks.

Go for it. I left a good job to do this. Are you Leeds?

That's quite common to offer a temporary contract initially, most people I know work for East Coast have started the same way and worked there way up to permanent contracts, I've seen people have the temporary extended for up to 12 months and then offered a contract after this, from what I hear all the current intake are temporary part time contracts, thought thats just for one depot not sure about the others.

Hi guys,
I'm not sure about contractual ins/outs but I do know we're all on a 6 month probation initially which is common.
I think the rail industry is fairly similar to most work places with regards to temporary/trial/probationary periods as they don't want to go handing out full time permanent contracts to folk who'll be late/be off work a lot and lack competency in the role.
Don't worry :) if you get stuck in and try your best it'll all work out nicely... That's my motto :) :) :) they're going to want to keep you, it's in their interest to have hardworking staff.
If you're really worried I'd talk to HR or crew manager in the 1st instance as you're not gonna perform that well if you have a niggle :)
