As soon as I found out my start date I decided to hand in my notice, so now I'm finishing on Saturday, then going on Annual leave for 3 weeks and spending most of it in America, then coming back and having an extra week or so to relax before starting with GTR. Losing a week of pay for it but well worth it.
The wait is killing me, desperate to leave my current job as I can't stand it so checking the mail every day with hope. Surprised we still have no confirmation about October seeing as some people will need 6 weeks notice.
Fingers crossed it's not 2016 courses for people who applied for Bedford
Do you folk have to wait by excitedly posting "I can't wait" on the forum? Can't you wait quietly? 
The "I heard x places are on a course in october" or "I heard that blah, blah" etc, etc ad infinitum et nauseum, is getting a bit much. Can't people post facts instead?

I know for a fact that they are still interviewing this week and I'm pretty sure we won't hear anything for a little while. I've got it on good authority that Claire is leaving soon and planning on sending out a letter updating people in the pool with new contact details and updating them with the current state of play.
Personally I've given up waiting for the postman every day, I'm confident something will eventually turn up and that the positions won't just disappear (why else would you continue to interview). I can't remember what date, but at some point in the near future GTR won't be allowed to cancel a train due to not having a driver, they can't do that with the current number of drivers, just another reason why I'm confident it will still happen.
As for criticising people for being excited about their new career and posting on the forum, I say carry on. It doesn't hurt anyone and for those that don't like it just unsubscribe to the thread.

I've been told before she leaves she's planning on updating everyone, not giving them their dates. To me that sounds as though they're not ready to announce dates just yet. It also makes a bit of sense to wait until they've finished their latest round of interviews so they know who they've got and for which depot.

Well it's all very real for me now. Got my contract in the post today. All signed and returned straight away.

Well I guess if you look at it from the employers prospective if you were hiring of cause you are going to pick the best candidates for the job it's just how it goes I suppose lets just hope we are in the high scoring end so we can get placed quickly
I've been sat here wondering, for those waiting for start dates, what jobs you're leaving to be a train driver for and why? Is it because you've had enough of your current job or because you've always wanted to be a driver?
I'm a Police Officer and have been for 16 years, I'm leaving because I simply don't enjoy it anymore, the job has changed far too much over recent years. Never really gave much thought to bring a driver until about 12 months ago but having researched the job I decided it was the right career move for me. The most important thing for me in making my decision to go for the driver position though was the job security and support offered my the managers and unions, hopefully the reality will live up to what I've been told.

I'm a serving Police Officer with Northants Police, 7 years in. Unfortunately a lot has changed for the worse and there are no signs of improvement. I could go on about my reasons for leaving but don't find it appropriate to post on here, but I'm sure you'll understand being in the job yourself!
I chose to be a train driver because I love travel, and most aspects of it. My father worked on the railways when I was a child, which sparked my interest in the railways. The salary, pension, benefits and hours are very attractive along with job security. I have no issues with working alone and I think I will be well suited to the job.
I just hope it's not too long now, I am extremely eager to get started.

I'm from an account management background so big change for me
I was reading an article in an online rail magazine earlier (written Nov'14) , that stated that ' In 2015 GTR are planning on training 190 new drivers over 24 courses ' . Have we any idea how many courses have already been started since January? . I've had a scour through the threads and I can't see reference to many more than a handfull .
