The GTR talent pool.

Did anyone else get a letter from GTR today? I got one just stating what we already know about courses running from October. They've obviously had lots of emails from concerned applicants so have sent letter out to explain the situation...

I didn't but then I haven't had my medical yet.

Out of interest is everyone cancelling holidays october onwards?

Put it this way, if i get on a course start of next year then no carnivals for me....i can live with that!

Not really 'news' but, Passed my medical 3 weeks ago and a few days later recd an email confirming my sample had also passed and that all stages of application had been completed. It also said to be rest assured I will be placed on a course.

I read that as, we are very busy, you don't need to worry and keep ringing/emailing.

Same here, passed medical a couple of weeks ago and given the all clear, looking to be based at Hitchin or Kings Cross.

GTR offices told me the September allocation is full but should be given a start date for sometime between Oct and Dec.

I've just been reading the Northern Line thread, and the subsequent discussion ( again ) about talent pools, what they mean, and what they do.

I have never been told I'm in one, neither during or since completing application. I keep getting told on here that we're all in one. Who's been officially told this?

I'm not convinced. However am I the only one that hasn't been told this or are there more of us? If its just me, maybe I'm wrong.

There is nothing in it in till you have a start date does it really matter? From what I understand everyone will end up on courses which is completely different to how normal talent pools work where no such assurances are given

However it does seem likely you will be on the next course having waited a while for a depot that hasn't recruited for a while

I have been told I am in a talent pool awaiting a vacancy but wouldn't have been told that if hadn't sent an email

After reading the Northern Rail thread, yes it does matter. It seems applicants in their talent pool - and who have been for over a year - are being overlooked for a fresh recruitment drive.

That's good news, the wording that you are awaiting to be placed on a course. I got similar in mine, and that's what keeps me sane lol !

Claire told me at the end of my DM Interview last week as she was 1 of the people who interviewed me, that:
"If I was successful, then I would be placed into the Talent Pool to await Course start dates"
She also said I would be likely starting either December/January 2016, and dates are imminent for the next batch of courses.

Hopefully some of us should start getting start dates soon. I spoke with a friend who is a trainee driver with GTR, he joined in January. He stated that everyone goes into the talent pool prior to being allocated a course, just as I thought.
