No excuse for that one. There were delays to the early passenger trains. It should never have started out on the journey.

This thread matter is now a subject that would well be worthy of the title of the 1984 film "The NeverEnding Story"....![]()
I don't recall saying I wanted jobs to go on the railway regarding signallers on the North and West. Quite, I've had concerns about job security lately too so I understand the redundancy worries.
Not sure how I'm revelling in it all mind, but it would be nice to have a mainline railway in the modern day not needing to use such things as Absolute Block signalling, and having bi-di along the North and West would be immensely useful all year round, there would be a chance to have less reliance on rail replacement coaches during engineering work. Newport to Shrewsbury is a fair ol' trek as it is by rail, by road it'Il be even more of an endurance! Speaking of...
Is Shrewsbury to Hereford the only route that's had a permanent replacement bus, on the first service of the day (0750 Shrewsbury to Hereford), on Sundays for several years? I don't recall a time when it hasn't been the case, so at least 10 years now. I don't know of anywhere else like it in the country!
I don't think this is a replacement bus service in the normal sense, I seem to recall that it was a subsidised bus provided by the local council to link into the first train of the day from Hereford on a Sunday.

With the thread matter in mind, you don't often see all that many reports of a rail-replacement bus service being disrupted by a broken-down HGV.
I saw this Arpley - Portbury automotive train on Tuesday morning at Temple Meads. For some reason it was routed to the up rather than the down through to wait for a path towards Parson Street, and the end of the train completely blocked Bristol East Jn, causing my train from Bristol Parkway to use the Filton Main Line from Dr Days Jn to access the station. I believe it detaches traffic for Barry at AD Jn, so it must be a real monster of a train on the Marches route. Has the FOC been asked by Network Rail at a senior level as to the risks involved with running such a train at a time when a problem could cause disruption to peak services into Cardiff?Would agree, the length limit on the route is based on the Hereford loops which at 2163ft/659m on the down and 2310ft/704m on the up isn't too shabby. Someone was obviously a bit naughty though considering 6V51 was running at 2182ft so its butt would have hung out.
ATW Journey Check:
12:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Milford Haven due 18:31
This train has been delayed between Pyle and Port Talbot Parkway by 48 minutes, has been further delayed between Port Talbot Parkway and Swansea and is now 69 minutes late.
This train will be terminated at Haverfordwest.
This train will no longer call at Johnston and Milford Haven.
This is due to a broken down freight train.
Even on a Bank Holiday.
