Marches blocked yet again by A Broken Down Freight.

I was heading north this morning, as was the Freightliner.

Sorry - the next train northbound was bang on time into Manchester.

We were 9 late into MAN, and crawled it from Crewe(ish) onwards. No idea why, presume signals against us for whatever reason. Won't blame this one on freight then .

I'd let them off 5 minutes!

If it leaves Crewe more than about 5 minutes late, it can end up stuck behind first the crewe-airport-piccadilly that leaves at xx:33 as far as Wilmslow, and then the Alderley Edge - piccadilly the rest of the way. It often then also gets stuck waiting for a path through the junctions at Cheadle and Stockport. Even a small delay on the marches can really mess things up going into Manchester.

I was thinking of the Northern logs, known locally has "The Logs",Chirk has an amazing appetite for wood, seeing the amount of the sawdust and shavings trucks around Wrexham on the way to Chirk.

There seem to have been a spate of delays on ATW Journey Check recently - "Due to late running Freight"

Usually what delays the freight isn't the FOCs fault. A freight train will be put away for a late running passenger which will then make the freight late and subsequently have a knock on for services behind.

And again :roll: . My inbound train to Man Pic, departing for SW Wales at 1430, is "delayed" i.e. held up behind a freight train. I bet it terminates short and I have to make my way to Crewe .

It was the Colas logs train from Baglan Bay to Chirk, it should have been 20 ahead of 1W20 but left Hereford 3 late and lost time north of Hereford but wasn't looped at Wooferton.

I have just looked this up. The train from Milford Haven arrived Shreswbury 6 late and departed 5 late (WTT times). The delay was between Newport & Hereford and was not connected to any freight train.

Information given by guard was incorrect.

Until quite recently there was a FLHH coal booked into Woofferton loop but the only one I've seen recently is the occasional 6M58 Westbury Cement Works- Tunstead.

Have to be clipped and then unclipped, done it many a time on that route with OTMs, it's a 30 minute operation

Yes it definitely is useful for the late running Portburys if its the same hour as the Holyhead. It is interesting to think how many loops there once were on the North & West especially on the Down.

RTT is reporting several passenger trains as cancelled due to a traction problem: 1C92, 1W92 and 1W52 amongst them. I presume that this is the freight train's traction problem being (mis-)reported everywhere? :/

Is there any evidence to suggest that this problem occurs more frequently on this route than any other, or is it simply that because of the nature of the route with a mix of DMUs and freights with few loops, this makes it more difficult to rescue failures, and therefore the effects are worse.

I think that is a slight exaggeration!

Nothing can be done about it as long as the Freight Company is paying Route Access Charges. That's the was the system works now. If a Thunderbird loco was to be provided, who would pay for it as several Freight Companies use the route.
