:o Judging by BBC Look East news interview with Jonathan Denby (GA media bod) mark 3 stock taken off by Virgin might find its way to East Anglia to cover for refurbishment work about to commence !

It would fit there, and I believe the refurbishment work is already under way.

Move to AGA may happen today & following mods/crew conversion etc it should enter traffic in a few weeks. Refurbs on current stock get under way in the new year. Set should stay together due to WIFI being in DVT on this set as opposed to the FOD on other sets.

The DVT I guess will have similar issues to the GA ones when they arrived as I recall they were subject to speed restrictions over parts of the route. Seven Kings Station springs to mind.

Certainly something needs to happen. Around 7 of the 11 sets required in traffic were short formed on one day recently.

That must have been a very good day. We've actually managed just one 10-car recently several days on the trot.

Is that just because carriages are away at refurb?

will the pretendalino stay after the GA sets are all refurbed?

Defo not staying. Many probe down to wheel flats, back log of repairs & not enough stock.

Why are the DVTs subject to speed restrictions? Weight issues?

I believe its out of gauge at speed through some stations so it has to slow down to reduce the sway as it passes through some stations.

If I recall correctly the DVTs had suspension dampers that allowed 110mph running on the WCML. They needed modifying for the 100mph GEML to keep then in gauge, which only happenned after they had turned up.

But they were allowed in service providing the restrictions were observed and not banned from GEML until the modifications had been completed?

Isnt there at least one spare GA DVT somewhere from the disbanded set?

Currently to be found wandering around between Norwich and Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft covering for shortages of DMUs providing its allowed to run of course.

The Class 47 "Short Set" uses mark 2s coaches now so no DVT involved.

It's on the way to it's new home :D
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
whats actually being done to GA's MK3s?

New seat covers, carpets, LED lighting & CET toilet at one end with other end removed. Most important job for passengers appears to be fitting of power sockets at most seats.

Saw it on it's way up, looked in pretty good condition, clean and shiny. FGW 57605 was on the front, with DRS 47813 dead in tow, which was a bit of a surprise.

Out of genuine curiosity, what would make a 90+MK3 set special on a route which has 90+MK3s on a half hourly basis? :?

Dampers on DVT i think. Until done will be subjest to same route restictions that occured back in 2004.
