I thought this game was meant to be a new start after the previous game got too petty...

Agreed.

Anyway we walk to Broadstairs Pierremont Hall, catching the Stagecoach East Kent route 9 to Sturry Rail Station, leaving at 0920, and arriving at 1013 on a Saturday morning.

We then enter the station and board 2W34, the 1058 Southeastern service to London Bridge, arriving there at 1243 on Saturday afternoon.

I'm not being petty, I'm point out the rules of the game. Whats the point of having rules if you don't bother following them.

I've had enough of the game anyway. Its alot of work for very little outcome and the attitude of some people towards the game is starting to get tiresome. I hope the game continues for the benefit of those who do enjoy it. For me, I bid you all goodnight.

We then return into the heart of the city on the 1512 Go-Ahead London service 22 to Piccadilly Circus, arriving there at 1610 on Saturday afternoon.

I agree, and I also think it's good to have rules, but Kings Cross and St Pancras are less than 0.5 miles apart.

A tad extreme, I very nearly gave up on this game too but I had faith. You have to admit it has been MUCH better than the last round. I don't see anyone who has an attitude either.

However, it is entirely your decision and I respect that. I do hope you return.

.

I don't think that has been challenged - it was getting from Parkside in Cambridge to the rail station that caused the issue

You're not understanding the rule I quoted “You may not walk between stations of the same transport mode”. You can't walk between two different railway stations or bus stops, only between different transport modes i.e from a railway station to a bus stop. I would class Kings Cross and St Pancras to be two different stations so walking between them is an invalid move.

I hadn't noticed the walk between Parkside and Cambridge railway station, its a move of 0.9 miles which is the only rule it breaks. Another forum member made a similar move on the old game, they walked from Drummer Street bus station to Cambridge railway station. It was my objection to the distance involved in the walk (and the numerous other journey options available at the bus station which had been ignored) that tightened the rules on walking on the old game.

We enter the railway station and board the 1721 LO service to Richmond that arrives at 1746 on Saturday afternoon.

I'll post a move just to keep the game going.

We make our way over the main line platforms to board the 17:52 South West Trains service to Clapham Junction, arriving at 18:15 Saturday evening.

Sorry, I must have glanced past your post by mistake. A fair point you make, however for the purpose of not confusing matters it is probably best to avoid it just this once and I will certainly bear it mind for the next time. The last thing I want is for tension to arise between members.

Our next journey involves boarding Southern's 2R02, which is the 1842 service to Sutton, arriving there at 1916 on Saturday evening.

I see what you mean. I think this rule slipped past the re-writing process - as everyone else seems to agree unanimously that it doesn't really make any sense as a rule in the new game I have struck it out in the original post for now. I will ask the Quizmasters to discuss a couple of bits of rewording.

It wasn't my intention to have the game moved back to Kings Cross, not since we've moved on so much. I just wanted to make you aware of the rule and for you to acknowledge it as you weren’t quite getting it. I can say you have understood it now though :)

The rule does make sense, it just needs some adjustment. I think walking between railway stations should remain invalid, there's always a train at every station even if it is an infrequent service. Walking between different transport modes (railway station to bus stop for example) is fine as there is a maximum walking distance set in the rules. Walking between bus stops is slightly more tricky to rule as there are a number of ways to do it. But its probably better if it remains ok so long as its within the set walking distance.

There isn't must more we can do with the night, so we watch the hours pass by before boarding the 07:06 East Midlands Trains service to Leicester, arriving at 07:54 Sunday morning.

Crikey, a lot has gone on in here since I was last on. Having read through the posts am I to take it that the quizmasters have removed the rule which did not allow for walking between the same mode of transport. ie Kings Cross and St Pancras???

I had totally forgotten about that ruling. Thanks to Class20 for bringing it to our attention. The reason I think I forgot about the rule is because almost everyone else had. Seems we changed the rule by ourselves without noticing. I would like the quizmasters to confirm whether or not rules if any are the be changed

Anyhow's on with the game!

We take 1C23 the 0826 East Midlands Trains service as far as Wellingborough where we arrive at 0902 on Sunday morning

Hmm no Sunday local buses at the station and the bus station is too far to walk (0.9 miles). And lots of rail replacement buses in the journey planner.

So I assume we work on the 'normal' rail timetable and take the EMT at 1033, arriving at Long Eaton at 1127 Sunday morning

Oh no I understand you didn't intend to move it back, but I just pointing out that I must have missed that rule. I was 'getting' it, but I kind of wasn't, if that makes sense?!

I also personally thought that Kings Cross and St Pancras were classed as one big interchange. Although they are served by different operators etc, the underground station is of course Kings Cross St Pancras. This is where I got confused with the ruling that states that no transfer between two stations is allowed. Of course I understand this for something ridiculous like walking between say Leeds and York, but not in this example.

But also, if we were going on the basis that they are two seperate stations, then as they were less than 0.5 miles apart, I thought this was allowed, hence the confusion.

That is correct. We work on the 'normal' timetable, as per the rules:

Rules said:
So the game remains realistic, you should use the current timetable for the relevant day not including timetable variations for engineering works.

We then continue with 1F24, the 1231 East Midlands Trains service to Sheffield, arriving there at 1328 on Sunday afternoon.

Whilst not wishing to assume the mantle of "quiz ogre", can the matter of regularly-made apologies and explanations now cease, as it is becoming difficult for one such as I with somewhat aged eyesight to know where these explanations end and the clues for onward journeys start.

This is where we are now Paul:

Hence why I always quote my comments, so that it is not confusing and one can distinguish posts.
