Ouch. Hope no one is injured though.

Guess will miss using 221105 then up to Scotland and back. As most previous times from Wolves i've got that unit. Imagine a Powercar from 221144 will be used it's place?

At least it wont cause much of a problem with stock shortages as there are two spare end coaches. I suppose a 221 (with disabled tilt) can talk to a 220 ?. Hope no one hurt - looks possible and that the driver is OK. Various reports of bad rail conditions around the country today. I see I have been beaten to it.

Whoops, that looks bad. Let's not speculate what happened until the investigation report comes out.

Where is the fun in that? :)

In any case, no speculation is needed about what happened. What happened is that the train did not stop where it should have. Now what led to that is another matter ...

Probably will, I believe Virgin are including 221144 in its refurbishment program with the intention of allowing swapping of the driving units.

As for the bike - I rather agree! :lol:

Somehow, whilst Virgin does love to have its fast 'sexy' branding everywhere I don't think this is what they imagined - take the train or the train will come to you!

At some point between this photo and this photo they turned the train around (I'm sure there's a technical term for when they change the lights from front to back). Are they just planning on driving off? Has no-one told the onboard team? =)

Bay Platform 1 at Chester is the normal one for terminating trains from the Crewe direction.
There is approach control into the bay and you usually slow to a crawl/stop outside Chester East Junction until the route clears into P1.
The train then speeds up through the junction to reach P1.
Squally winds and showers today with lots of wet leaves flying around.

Edit: Must have been the 1010 Euston-Chester, due 1212. 1235 return cancelled.
Next Chester service turned round at Crewe to compensate.
Smart operating if you ask me (except for Chester passengers!).

I'm surprised there hasn't been any Voyager bashing gone on yet...

Bet it was a shock for the driver, those on board and the staff/passengers on the platforms.

Good to know it was a Voyager that did this as I must say these are probably the safest rolling stock we have currently.

It doesn't' look like there has been too much damage to the front of the train, more the little bits of station clutter.

I imagine the platform will no doubt be open very soon once the mess is tidied, the train moved and an inspection done on the tracks by Network Rail.

Edit* Could a mod also rename the thread to something a bit more noticeable. Something such as 'Train hits platform at Chester'? It's more to make it easier to find via the search later on down the line (no pun intended)
