Personally I would argue that no penalty should be given, as the wording of the clues was meant to indicate that 2 types of traction were represented at the station required.

The clue stated: "2 out of the 3 main types of traction used on the British network (diesel, AC electric and DC electric) are represented at this station."
I am arguing that 377s, which are dual voltage unit, represent bith AC and DC so at Bletchley and Hastings 3 out of the 3 types are represented. I admit that it is pedantry at its highest level.

Clue 2:
Some or all of the trains serving this station serve a line which is part of a Community Rail Partnership.

Clue 3:
This station's number of platforms in passenger use has two distinct prime factors. The number of number platforms not in passenger use also has two distinct prime factors, both of which are different to the prime factors of the number of platforms in passenger use.

Clue 4:
If proper nouns were allowed, no blank tiles were used and no tiles were laid on bonus scoring squares, this station's name would score exactly 27 points in the standard English version of Scrabble.

Clue 3:
This station's number of platforms in passenger use has two distinct prime factors. The number of number platforms not in passenger use also has two distinct prime factors, both of which are different to the prime factors of the number of platforms in passenger use.
Due to this station's bizare platform numbering system, I am now about to lose 6 points. However, to keep the game alive, I will reword this as follows:
This station's number of platforms in passenger use has one prime factor. The number of number platforms not in passenger use has two distinct prime factors, both of which are different to the prime factor of the number of platforms in passenger use

I don't understand clue 3, so won't be posting again in this round ...
A prime factor is a factor of a number which can't be divided down further. For example, 20 has 3 prime factors, 2, 2, and 5 (as 2x2x5=20), so two distinct prime factors (as 2 is repeated). Hope this helps.

I make it just east of Edinburgh
Edinburgh is 3.2 degrees W
Preston is 2.7 degrees W
(both figures given to 2 significant figures)

To be honest, it was a total guess anyway; I don't actually know for sure if it fits the platforms clue as I have no idea how many unused platforms there are (assuming the R.E.S. platforms are counted)...

Well your clue 3 is rather specific, and I wouldn't want to get the number of disused platforms wrong! Not to mention it doesn't matter anyway as you've basically admitted a dud clue...

I'm baffled by clue number 3 as well, I'm finding it hard to find anywhere with a minimum of 6 platforms disused. (the smallest possible product of 2 prime factors)

I've messed up again with the complex wording, Gnolfe you have identified the problem. It was supposed to be the case that the number of numbered platforms including those not in passenger use had the two prime factors. I will let the rest decide how to proceed, I believe that way I have played it I am now due two 6 point penalties.

I've been asked to adjudicate on this (sorry I haven't played of late; been busy doing other things).

I think the best way forward is for clagmonster to accept the Penalty (I don't see why two should be applicable), and then a new clue.

Clue 5:
This platform is currently scheduled for electriciation, although it is likely that the majority of platforms won't be electrified.

The reason I think that two should be applicable is that I have provided two dud clues, the original clue 3 and the replacement clue 3.

This is not an answer.

Just to make sure that this is the way you intended clue 3 to be understood. Stratford Domestic has 21 platforms, including 2 disused ones. Therefore. for Clue three, the prime factors are 19 for the first part of the clue, and 3 and 7 for the second part. This is just an example.

You have understood correctly.

In which case, I'm going to guess at Bristol Temple Meads.
14 platforms in existance (counting the fact that east and west are seperately numbered)
1 platform disused, giving 13 platorms in current use
Prime numbers are 13, 2 and 7

Is the correct answer.

The reason I made the first mistake (thinking there are 15 platforms), is that I didn't account for the fact that platform 15 isn't split into 14 and 15, as the others are, thus meaning there is no platform 14.

Temple Meads is such an odd station for platform numbers.

(1) This station is not in the NSE area.

What happened to your normal choice of Derby Road?

(2) This station is served only by DMUs

I'll give a *free* bonus clue with this next one
(3) This station serves part of a coastal settlement.
(3A) This station is South of the Carlisle - Newcastle line.
