..... We're still the most successful team in the world and still in existance. .....
I realise you have to cheer yourself up somehow, but that sort of thinking is what has got the club (and, tangentially, Scottish sport generally) into deep doodah. The SPL is a VERY small pond, and always has been (Celtic's EC notwithstanding), and being the biggest fish in it does not amount to much; winning trophies in Scotland does not make anyone the most successful in anything except Scotland. Yet there is this myth that the Glasgow clubs are big players, and should spend accordingly. In playing terms, Rangers and Celtic have been at about the level of a mid-table English league 1 side for a long time; economically, they have not had the clout to pick up players to help improve.

Because they deserve better than Div 3 football. Their service has been brilliant, and I'm sure they'd have stayed had we still been in the SPL, however you just can't drag good players down with you. you don't have to play for the team you love you know, you can leave them.

Scotrail84 - I think you'll find we do, the company went, the club didn't. We're still the most successful team in the world and still in existance. Of course, if our history had gone, so would've Celtic's in the 90s when their assets were transferred to a new company too.

It looks like the jelly's gone off and the ice cream's melted.

Aye good one the only history you have is cheating for the how ever many years. Try and dress it up all you but it's still cheating at the end of the day and your history goes with it. Let's face the rest of the league don't want you we can live without you. We've got the chance to change Scottish football and we will. Say hello to Peterhead elgin etc.

I thought rangers don't do walking away?? Or is that just the players.........

In order to parachute into the 3rd division, rangers would have to submit several years' audited accounts (which neither the defunct oldco or the newco have). The prominent junior clubs are dusting down their pristine, properly-kept accounts in anticipation of the chance of being promoted to senior football. Quite rightly so, they have more right as professionally-run football clubs than the rapidly-sinking HMS sevco 5068 or whatever its called.

So they are stuffed. well and truly.

Cheating? Could you please provide examples / evidence - news links, YT videos, books? Cheers. It speaks more to use examples rather than empty rhetoric.

Spending money they dont have, not paying they're tax bills, cheating the hmrc out of millions. Dodgy loans to players offshore accounts............
Now off you trot to division 3 if they let you in. The rest of us don't want Rangers we are fed up with their cheating nonsense and not to mention the bigotry and sectarianism. I dislike Rangers more than my Edinburgh rivals. (Nothing personal mate)

Latest Euro Club Index (Top five places)

4373....Barcelona

4365....Real Madrid

3682....Manchester United

3513....Bayern Munich

All five positions show no place changes since the previous list was published.

What does the index represent? Is it income or a general "success" rate

edit: or is it the coefficient for Champions League competitions?

The Euro Club Index is a ranking of all the professional football clubs in the higher divisions of all European nations and is to illustrate the relative strengths of the clubs in the list....to use their own wording.

I think that's a bit harsh. They are Premiership quality - it's no accident that Rangers reached the UEFA Cup Final only four years ago. It's just that they are both some way behind the big boys in the Prem - if the Prem had 22 clubs, i.e. next season's 20 plus the Old Firm, I would expect both to finish somewhere in the region of 11th to 15th.

Some others of interest to the folks on here...

6 Chelsea (3414)
9 Arsenal (3264)
19 Tottenham (3060)
24 Everton (2918)
29 Liverpool (2869)
44 Newcastle (2716)
53 Fulham (2651)
72 Aston Villa (2462)
79 Stoke (2449)
91 West Brom (2381)
96 Sunderland (2349)
97 Wigan (2346)
125 Bolton (2227)
134 Swansea (2167)
147 Blackburn (2135)
164 Norwich (2104)
214 QPR (1950)
223 Dundee Utd (1913)
236 Wolves (1863)

That is every British team in the Top 250 (not including those mentioned previously). All Premiership teams from last season are in the Top 250, including relegated teams. Swansea are shown as being Welsh.

Nice to Everton ahead of Liverpool as we should be :p

I wonder what criteria they use? It obviously isn't exclusively relative to League performance...

Premiership quality my erse they are pish and would be found out very quickly. The only reason they finish 1st and 2nd most seasons is because the steal all the other teams best players to eliminate the threat. It's been happening for the last 50 years up here. I have been watching Scottish football for the last 25 years and nothing has changed until now.............

Everything now hinges on the meeting of the SPL clubs that has been scheduled for an early 1000 start on Wednesday, 4th July and the result of the twelve votes that will be cast at that meeting.

I stand by my statement! Look at the way "top" players from the SPL frequently struggle to make any impact in English sides. I also think it is arguable that there is no gulf in quality (give or take a few star players) between about sixth in the Prem and mid-table in Div 1. There are teams that fall from the top and find their level there, and teams that start there and find their level mid-table in the Prem. It is when you get the hype associated with a "Big team" name that the idea of quality gets distorted.

I have to admit, the way the Championship and upper echelons of League One have been changing of late - such as both Sheffield clubs being in League One last season, Coventry getting relegated, Norwich and Southampton achieving consecutive promotions, etc - I can understand that viewpoint. I'm still not sure I would agree sufficiently to suggest that the average League One club would find a match against Celtic anything short of difficult though.

It is nice to compare and contract the way the FA have treated Darlington and the way the SPL/SFA are treating Rangers. Both clubs have done, essentially, the same thing. (well we didnt use creative accounting practices to reduce our taxation burden for several years thus saving many millions of pounds but you get the gist)

By the way i wonder if Rangers will have to change their name. The FA have insisted we change our name from Darlignton Football Club. We will now be known as Darlington 1883

If that happens then Livingston will sue the sfl after they were relegated to division 3 for going into admin.

They won't because they weren't relegated for going into administration. They were placed in the third division because they breached the rules on insolvency after they went into administration. Also, the other clubs in the First Division had approached the SFL with concerns that Livingston wouldn't be able to fulfil their fixtures and despite paying the bond, the SFL were still not satisfied that Livingston could do this.

Two completely different cases.

It looks like they are going to sneak into the First Division.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18625293

It is only when you read that report in full, do you come to the small paragraph that states that if the SPL proposals do not gain acceptance, that Rangers could still start off the coming season in Scottish League Division Three.

With regard to the Scottish League Division One scenario, the report states that Falkirk, Raith Rovers and Morton have reservations of their own and that there has no statement made so far by Dundee, who finished in second place, behind Ross County, in Scottish League Division One.

I now sit back and await the expected comments from certain quarters of this forum that I am wrong to use the word Scottish in the description of the leagues in this posting...;)

I sincerely hope that was referring to me Paul, sarcasm is a poor trait. Of course you should say 'Scottish Division x', it's the official name. 'Glasgow Rangers' isn't.

You are right, they have. I still cannot see it being successful though, as I said above, it's two completely different cases and different reasons a to why Livingston were put in the third division.

Sarcasm

The last refuge of modest and chaste-souled people when the privacy of their soul is coarsely and intrusively invaded.

Fyodor Doestoevsky

So I intrusively invaded your soul when I questioned why you said Glasgow Rangers?

How about this for a quote on sarcasm?
'Sarcasm is the language of the devil, for which reason I have long since as good as renounced it' - Thomas Carlyle

So it was a joke? As I'm sure you are aware, it is hard to tell tone in prose, hence sometimes it is better to use ;) to say indicate a joke and  to indicate sarcasm, otherwise anybody reading it is clueless. I for one read it as sarcasm.

Olympics...Football Squad

The three over age players have been named as Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards. David Beckham has been omitted unsurprisingly.

I am not at all happy to see Micah Richards included as he suddenly decided last year that he would only make himself available for international football on his own terms. Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs give a Welsh input into the squad and both have been regular players in the Premiership, with fitness still very much a strong point with both of these two players.

David Bellamy??? How about Craig Bellamy??
Great to see 'attention seeking has been' Beckham left out, thus avoiding turning the Olympics football into a bigger farce than it already is...
Things going from bad to worse down Ibrox way, which ever way you look at it...Go Livingston on suing the SFA if 'jobs for the boys' let Rangers into Scottish Division 1, instead of down to Division 3, can't have a rule for one, and one for another, can we???<(
