Young child killed on crossing

For me, it is simple - I see that there are three types of people who get killed on railway lines:

* People committing Suicide
* Trespassers (wishing to graffiti or climb on trains in depots for example)
* Accidental Trespassers

The only one of these groups I have any sympathy for are the accidental trespassers (of which the 2 year old child is one).

There will also be some that are pushed on the track, although thankfully that's rather rare.

Cue some casual racism, as it turns out the family were travellers.

Expect to see comments about kids running out of control, poor parenting etc. All unjustified and uncaring, of course.

Obviously I do have sympathy for railway staff killed whilst at work and those injured or killed in train accidents, I was referring to muggles rather than railway staff

Perhaps this site could just do away with the death on the railways threads as they just bring out the holier than thou and little hitler brigade...

Or maybe some people could be a little more grown up and think about the sensitive nature of what they are commenting on?

Maybe some of us live in the real world and face dealing with situations like this potentially everyday, dealing with it in our own way?
For the record i think it's tragic, but where were the parents?

The child got away from his parents (as children do) and managed to get onto the crossing. The mother tried in vein to get him back but it was too late.

I don't remember when i was 2, but when i was about 5 i know my parents would have a good grip on my hand when anywhere near a busy road or railway.
