There was a time when special trains would run. Jimmy Hill was responsible for getting specials for away games when he was manager of Coventry City.

Turning to the more civilised sport, Rugby, when Cornwall reached the County Championship final in the early nineties, one local rugby club hired an HST which ran from Penzance to Paddingdon. Western Region even decked out the inside of the carriages in black and gold

Does anyone, TOCs or clubs, run specials now or is it a thing of the past.

I heard from the Leeds United Supporters Trust that BTP were planning on arranging a direct non stop Blackburn (or might have been Mill Hill not sure) to Leeds train at the weekend thats just past. Not sure if it did run or not as I got a later train back.

It did run from Blackburn, it did have an unscheduled stop near todmorden for a pass-comm and it was 1x158, 2 x 155. It went via Brighouse and Dewsbury into Leeds.
