What's the advantage of using 37's instead of the 47's?

From an operational point of view, rather than pleasing enthusiasts!

Can be used with a DBSO/DVT. Unfortunatley none available at the moment since late use by Northern. However AGA have been compensated. Should also when available be slightly less wear & tear on the track.

Aren't there any spare GA DVT's after a rake got disbanded a few years back?

I still cant believe those DBSO's are in service considering their state at withdrawal from the GEML!

As these are Mk2's on relatively local services, wouldn't a GLV do just as easily ?

Perhaps they could borrow one back off of NR's departmentals.

Hi all
Now, this may have been posted elsewhere but I am travelling to Great Yarmouth tomorrow from Liverpool Street and am on the 11.36 from Norwich and the 18.17 back to Norwich.
Could anyone tell me the diagram for the 37s tomorrow or is it still 47 hauled?
Thanks people. It will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Dean

The 47's were handed back to DRS due to increasing unreliability if i remember rightly. Apparently because of the long contract between abellio and DRS they then agreed to provide 37's instead as they have had a recent refurbishment.

11:36 booked for a 153 but may get strengthened as Friday's are a busy holiday changeover day. You should be in luck as the Tractors are booked for the 17:36 & 18:17 return :D

You would lose seating & are they available or even compatible? We've never had them in this neck of the woods.

That's a point - I hadn't previously realised that the Mk2 DVT included a passenger saloon. Come to think of it, I'm not sure whether a GLV would be compatible with non Southern loco's !

It wouldn't. DBSOs had 32 seats & Crown Point where allocated all 13 (9701-5 & 9707-14) the 14th 9706 was lost in the Polmont accident when previously based in Scotland. They where all sent to Devonport for conversion before starting their new life in Anglia around 1990.

Northern aren't using DBSO's on their rakes either yet. They currently have a 37/4 on one end and either a 37/4 or 37/6 on the other though 218 and 688 have also made appearances.

Yes still working. At the moment the Yarmouth end TSO is locked out of use due to a faulty door. 12:36 ex-Nrw is rammed in the other coach & a half.

Not very often a spare DVT even with the Pretendolino. There always seem some stopped with faults. DRS have the contract for the rolling stock as well as traction so cannot just use AGAs vehicles.

RTT just lists which train's acceleration/braking characteristics were used when timetabling the train. This sometimes matches up with what actually runs it, but sometimes trains with similar characteristics are used for timetabling, but different ones to the ones that actually operate the service, for various reasons.

RTT doesn't know what actually runs it, as there is no open data to provide this information.

Having said that, I'm surprised that it can keep up with sprinter timings!

Really? It's 2 class 37s both powering at the same time with a mere 3 coaches. Will probably beat let alone match timings as long as the punters close the doors behind them & they are better trained now it's been around a while. There only real performance issue now is the 20mph restriction for other than DMUs on a bridge at Postwick.

3,500hp on three Mk2s. Course it'll move. Excrement off a shovel comes to mind.

I was referring more to dwell times, but point, its superior acceleration probably helps there...

Given the sort of traffic it likely receives (ie holiday traffic), I doubt you'd manage to train punters to close doors even if it ran for a decade... having said that, AGA are incredibly good at making announcements telling people to close doors behind them, and it ACTUALLY WORKS. I've noticed they seem to get away with far fewer dispatch staff than other operators who operate slamdoor trains. Why on earth FGW don't adopt this procedure is beyond me.

The fact it's currently got enthusiasts frothing in every doorway helps too :p

'Employ' an enthusiast per vestibule to close the doors and give them free travel on the 37s as a reward. Win-win situation - train kept on time; enthusiast gets their haulage

I see even with the hauled set Anglia are short of units...

There's about a dozen Lowestoft/Yarmouth/Sheringham services short formed with just a single 153 today...

The 37's are actually required to run all of their set diagrams I believe?

That hasn't exactly - AGA Report Window Hanging means some services have had to run at reduced speeds as there are many bridges along the route.

Since when? Only restriction is the 20mph at Postwick for LHCS. There was a broken droplight which caused the leading coach to be Locked OOU. Never heard of any restrictions for muppets leaning out.

A passing train for some reason on Friday reported some punters leaning out too far & next service cautioned. That was all.

They can install window bars like those run on the Cumbrian coast.
