Do you actually mean Welsh Government spending its Capital money on the three English Hub Stations, out of interest.
Well they seem to be wanting to spend money on the redouble with just a minor percentage of this line being in Wales so why not?

Presume you are referring to the landlocked section in Cheshire west.Well they seem to be wanting to spend money on the redouble with just a minor percentage of this line being in Wales so why not?

As far as I am aware the only section of the redouble in Wales is to the Welsh Border near Rossett. The rest is in England

buses replace trains last two weekends in march Rhyl-Chester-Wrexham,to allow major work at Saltney Junction and elsewhere.
You are mostly correct, however there must be a bit at Saltney(Flintshire)

Im not sure if this has been covered, but I read very recently in a Liverpool publication that, a further step forward has been made to restore the Halton curve to full service. Thought Id mention as not far from the subject matter here.

Thanks for the info LNW-GW joint, I always get confused with that pub by the bridge,
in the 50s it had double names "Last House In England" and "First House In England" that was in the days of dry Sundays in Wales.
SWMBO has just reminded me of the coaches that ran from Wrexham to Chester on Sunday evenings in the 50s for the heathen brew

Indeed it has, the new WG North Wales travel quango is very keen, and I am sure Taith the North Wales travel consortium(about to be killed off) as promised some funding for the study.
All the pointwork is by the side of the track and has been there for a couple of weeks. I think they are just replacing the junction. The track between Saltney Junction to Rosset has a lot of jointed track in place and needs desperately replacing but this is in England, the section from the Border to Wrexham was replaced quite a while back. It is the same on the A483, as soon as you cross the border you go from a cracked concrete road to a smooth tarmac road, says it all really!

Try the A483/A5 south of Ruabon whenever I drive up Wrexham way the difference between North Shropshire/Powys and Wrexham is very noticeable of course the dual carriageway heads to the north west where demand is. Your roads are A grade.
Is the saltney job anything to do with redouble?
Anŷone using the 483 between Rossett and the post house junction can expect two to three mile queues between 0700 and 0900. All heading north west

Thanks,The pointwork for the double junction goes in before anything else which is probably what this job is. The new turnout for the up line will go in and just stop in a pile of ballast while the existing line gets its junction renewed.
It is still shown on the draft plans I have seen, 60mph from there onwards.
According to the NR GRIP report to WG, the junction upgrade is the addition of a turnout in the Down Holyhead to form the new Up line to Wrexham.
The existing line from Wrexham through Saltney old station becomes the Down.
It isn't clear whether any changes are needed in the existing junction layout.
Having had a look at the track survey, it shows about 2 miles of old jointed rail around Balderton mostly dating from 1963, and a similar stretch of 1000 yards near Rossett.
Some of the CWR is also the original 60ft lengths welded up, not new rail!
Would be very wrong if it worked like that, if the freights cannot be looped the new ATW trains should be rejected as they were second on the graph as the freights will have pretty solid contractual rights. The re-signalling won't be a miracle capacity producer anyway.
But thankfully we'll always have you to draw our attention to it... on every possible occasion :roll:It might be very wrong but the hourly Cardiff to Holyhead hourly proposal is something of a holy grail in some quarters and collateral damage does not register.

So that means 60MPH from Rossett right through to Bersham, that knocks the WG brag about 17 minute saving in time from Cardiff to Holyhead.
What a shambles. Thanks for the infos.
Bob
Oh dear. No improvement up/down Gresford Bank then.
I've heard that the only changes in speed around that point is from (Wrexham North Junction to Saltney Junction) 206mp 60c to 208mp 60c and will increase from 60mph to 90mph and also from (Saltney Junction to Wrexham North Junction) 211m 60c to 206m to 60c will again increase from 60mph to 90mph.
