Well during the day Ponte-carlo is all right after dark into the early hours of the morning less so...

Blackpool isn't very pleasant, made worse with Hen Party & Stag Nights, they don't give it a good name with the class of people they attract, they just lower the tone! Morecambe & Skegness!

The one GOOD thing about Stevenage is that you can catch the East Coast HST up to London and Peterborough, then onto the North towards Leeds and Newcastle.
But beware, it may look nice at 125mph, but just you try going through the place itself!

I have to agree that I much prefer South Shields over its northern brother, and the Red Hut gets my vote for the best fish and chips Ive ever had! All other fish and chip shops I sample are measured against it.
The Ocean Lounge is also a canny place to grab some decent grub, as well as cheap cocktails up to a certain time of the evening. Big fan of the Alum House and the Steamboat when I fancy a tipple or three as well. As you can see, theres plenty to keep me happy in South Shields. 
Note that Im over two hundred miles away from the place as I write this! Im going to make a merry afternoon/evening out of a visit to Shields next time that Im back in the north east: So thatll be Easter no doubt; eleven days off work at the cost of just three days of leave!

Great Yarmouth, where I live, is a dump. It's only advantage is being close to Norwich.

I used to live in GY - it is bad isnt it!
Nothing wrong with MK (other than it not being Darlo!) it gets a very bad press from those who have never set foot in the place. I ask them to point out the bad features.................
Milton Keynes is OK. I don't know about Great Yarmouth.
Good Sunday lunch at the Magnesia Bank, although was expensive. Prefer to have a pint or 5 of Mordue instead. Oddfellows is also quite a good pub, although small. Think I've been in the Dolly Peel before but this was a long time ago, will have to change that.
Marshalls put their prices up sometime at the back end of last year, but still cheap compared to some other places. I do like the way it hasn't changed much in the 15+ years I've been going.

To be honest I don't venture much over the river to Sand dancer land!
I was in Skegness for an hour today and I think it actually is the WORST Town in the UK, and had to endure a train journey full of drunk overweight Scottish Chavs.....on the 12.15 to Sleaford. Although pretty Sleaford also could be a contender, theres more overwight, chain smoking child popping Helly Hansen/Berghaus/Lonsdale/McKenzie clad Charvers than Wallsend! The Nags Head however, was a welcome retreat....then when I left I nearly got knocked over by a Chav on one of those stupid brakeless BMX's 3 times too small for the rider!

Don't know if this place has already been discussed but what about Moss End in Manchester? That worser then some places in East London! Well it was before but I don't know if it's changed.

You need to visit The Maltings near the town hall- bit of a walk but cracking beer and if you can be bothered, get a bus out to Primrose and try the beer in the Robin Hood too

Hi, I must admit I havn't visited Hull for a good few years now.
My first impressions were formed from the approaches into the city from Beverley on the 121 (EYMS even had routemasters back then )and Hessle on the 350, followed by wanders from the old Ferensway bus station into the awful shopping area over the road.
I have been accosted 3 times in Hull by beggars, once in the old town and twice in the station- all three times they were aggressive- this is something of a record because i'm a big (and at the time fit) lad.
Having said all that, most of the locals I met were great and also spent a cracking night in Spiders nightclub once......

Yeah Ocean Lounge is opposite Barclays, near the Metro station. Nice relaxed place: No decent ale or cider mind, but the food is good.

Right, to clarify, N Ireland most definitely is in the UK. No matter what you call it, United Kingdom, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or even just Great Britain, N Ireland is part of it, full stop. Thats why people from N Ireland are officially British, just like all those from England, Scotland and Wales.
I really don't think some people from Scotland and Wales would take to kindly to being called British!
(bearing in mind all the sport rivalry!)

Sorry, but like it or not, their official Nationality is British. Why is it only possible to get a British passport? Because that is the official nationality of people born here. No matter what country within the UK they are born.
Anyway, someone asking why people are picking on Hull? Because the book that was first mentioned by the OP, named Hull as the worst town in the UK. They were taking everything into consideration. Crime, unemployment etc etc. Admittedly parts of the centre look quite pleasant, but if you look beyond this, then things go downhill quickly, and obviously crime and unemployment is bad.
For me, its Folkestone i dont really like. But then again, having lived nearby for 19yrs, perhaps im just bored of it.
Oh no, I'm fine with it. I don't have a problem at all. I was just thinking about all the old sporting rivalries between England and Scotland (I am English)
