This shouldn't annoy you because you have learned something today and the place where you work has done a real time this is not a test fire evacuation - these are very important as trials don't really show up any deficiencies in the plans or how people do them

I was actually listening to a play on my headphones at the time though and I couldn’t work out where a fire alarm fitted into the plot until I worked out what’d just happened.
This meant that I was the last out and had to do the walk of shame past the annoyed looking accountants whilst apologising profusely.

Not really, some (many) people are fine. It comes down to two issues, thoughtlessness and incompetence. The former is a plague everywhere in society, not just the workplace. We seem to live in a world now where individuals just can't be bothered to think, as though evolution of mankind through to the sentient intelligent large brained capable of logic and reason animal, is gradually being reversed.

Ah an interesting turn of phrase that. Its generally used to say "People who don't think like me" One mans logic is another mans stupidity.

Im in favour of banning food at desks, it stops the build up of dirt and it means managers can't expect workers to have their lunch whilst working (al desko).

My school (ex-school) recently banned water at desks. You're not even allowed them in lessons at all, so you'd have to wait two hours to have a drink.

Last Friday of the month paydays, especially the 5 week ones...grr

I hate it when pay comes through...a few days before Christmas. Makes it a 6-7 week wait for the next pay packet.

I get paid on the last Thursday of the month, my brother the last Friday, so some months he gets his pay before me.

Pretty annoying when you've got a direct debit that goes out on the penultimate day of the month and you don't get paid until the day after!

He watched on the CCTV and apprantly the passenger dirtied up.

My pet peeve is line managers who clock watch you. Can't stand clock watchers and work to rule mentality. Does it happen on the rails alot work to rule?

Certain people are Email Black Holes, the emails go in but nothing ever comes out ... Occasionally they're ones that I might need to know in my job and end up with variations of the following conversation;

- Have you done xyz, Tracked?
- xyz?
- Did I send you the email?
- (checks) No
- I'll send you the email

Also, the loudmouth in the office who doesn't like the company he works for, and thinks everything about it is rubbish, and can't get through one day without moaning about it. To the extent that some of us wonder if he sometimes gets up in the morning, sees it's raining, and blames the company he works for. That's genuinely not that much of an exaggeration for comic effect either ...

Even back in the 1990's on the North London Line , with a late running train (often because of a non TOC issue) , you used to get the Highbury "intelligensia" pointedly watch tapping. Suitable PA announcements - not in the script made drivers feel a bit better....

For me now as we wear headsets at work it's people breathing heavily through their mic so I have to listen to their breathing in surround sound or listen to them mumbling when they're doing calculations or listen to them chewing gum or frantically chewing their crew meal with their mouths open. It makes me sick! Also conversations about wealth and conversations that prove that a majority of my colleagues are out of touch with reality annoy me somewhat.

Absolutely. I wish my life was so simple that I had time to be consumed by the fact that Epoknee-Raey was a few minutes late last month then dared leave her desk a minute early to grab the Friday special at the works canteen then dared forefeited her afternoon break for a smoke stop later in the day.

The joys of lifers in heavily unionised northern factories. I don't miss them one little bit! I wish my life was so simple that I had time to fester over a colleague's minute management.

As a mechanic (in training) and a student in general, i have 5 things that pee me off..
Played out as 5 scenarios...

1 - "Right, all i need is a 10mm socket, and... which dozy b###ard replaced the 10 with another 11..."

2 - "Can you see alright down there?" before deciding that the wired light is now going to go all the way through a crowded engine bay...

3 - "Where's my tools gone? They were there a minute ago..." while some inconsiderate (blank) has nicked the buggers...

4 - "Did you disconnect the battery?" No, they clearly didn't, but they claim to have done so, thus you waste time having to do it yourself.

5 - (In class) "You should be revising, yada yada, its not like i waste 20 minutes of your time, is it?" Yes. Yes, you just did. Congratulations on being a hypocrite.

Managers who break rules that could result in a very hefty fine from the information commissioners office and ignore the warnings when told so.

It is several decades since I was in a role where I had to worry about such things but I can think of similar managers. In our case it was the ones who wanted things done their way, usually the way the book was written 20 years previously when the tech was different, rather than by the current regs. Of course it would be the PBI who got it in the neck from internal audit in an inspection.

After moving to the O&M department I did have occasional childish pleasure in telling managers who demanded extra staffing to work their personal systems to RTFM and work by it. (Phrased rather more politely of course)

Similar were customers who called you a "jobsworth" for refusing to do something which would mean breaking external regulations rather than just company ones.
