Has anything been officially said by WMR about the six 2 car 196s which are said to be covering the EWR diagrams from 2025 ? Are DfT assuming there will be timetable cuts to free them as I cannotthink of another solution.

As eluded to by the previous post, not many 196s are actually needed by WMR on their current diagrams, so presumably they can manage with giving away the six.

So will all services be 196s by then? That’s an extremely fast introduction if so
Not compared to the original timescales, although there are extenuating circumstances in this instance...

And presumably they will be bedded in reliability-wise.

With the 196’s also working Leamington - Nuneaton & Camp Hill Services. Plus the Hereford/Shrewsbury routes it’s looking likely that they won’t go to East West. Assuming the Shrewsbury/Herefordshire will be 4 car that’s 10 out of 14 diagramed. With the knuckle & Camp Hill Shuttle Services that will be a minimum 4 Sets. Rumours of additional Worcester services via Bromsgrove according to the west mids route strategy, potentially connected with the camp hill services, that would be at a min 2/3 sets. That’s 17 sets out of 26. Allowing for maintenance/spares not much scope for east west to have any.
With the potential delays to that route they may have sourced other stock by then.

Not shortage, it's if there is a fault and it's the nearest thing they can grab onto.
Well, WMR will need to wean themselves off the 170s being a safety net sharpish - they won’t be around forever. EMR have been messed around enough over the last couple of years and are in need of them; so WMR need to be self-reliant when it comes to solving 196 faults as services bed in and ramp up.

The only reason the small numbers are still here was cover the remaining diagrams which still booked with 170s along with the number of spares.

Just to confirm, is everything still on track for tomorrow’s 0625 WOS-BHM (and subsequent services of course)?

Presumably you mean yes to its too optimistic rather than it is happening on Monday.
Yes,too optimistic. Hopefully happening before the end of the month. Network Rail delaying things at present due to work not done which should have been. Not sure of details.

Probably a good thing for me if it's the end of April, I should have some more funds to play with and thus more likely to go after the 196s more locally. Still not had a 2-car 196 yet, I'm sure that will soon change!

I've seen the 2 car 196s but I've never been on one yet. For haulage I've had 196101, 110, 107, 109 and 104 so far.

A nice little list there. I scored 108 on Wednesday, only from Smethwick to New Street but it was a nice bonus to my day :) I've not got a list of the ones I've had to hand, I want to say that's my 6th one but it may have been 5th.

Smethwick to New Street is my usual 196 commute :)

I haven’t been on a /0 once. Though I had 102 the other day, and the ride quality was noticeably terrible, worse than any other 196s

I diverted myself specially on a Hereford to Birmingham journey the other day, to go via Kidderminster just to try my luck on the 196s. I had 50-odd minutes to fill in Birmingham, so it just made sense.

Yikes to the bad ride though, I've not yet had a bad 'un but I've probably just tempted fate!

A trademark of bad build quality is inconsistent build quality.

I've taken just two rides on a 196, both of which incidentally being 196101 sat in the middle of the carriage; The first time was on the first day and it rode OK, but the second time seemed to be quite poor, although I was likely sat in different carriages.
