I'd echo the previous post about information at Glasgow Central. We were there earlier in the day, trying to travel to Birmingham. Very nice people from Virgin at platforms 1/2, but with no information about what was happening. We'd sat in the cafe considering our options via various websites (Mr Branson's being particularly useless). Travel via Edinburgh seemed to be a better idea than the buses to Carlisle on offer at Central.
By the time we'd sorted this out, we just missed the 10:59 to Penzance via Edinburgh (a 5-car set, so probably rather squashed further south).
We were then told by the VT despatch staff that Virgin would be running the 12:00 to B'ham, albeit with a diversion via Kilmarnock.
A few moments later we're told they won't be running this. And you wonder why passengers are unimpressed?
So it was the 11:05 to Edinburgh via Shotts, the 12:30 to Newcastle (a very crowded HST from Aberdeen) and the 14:35 CrossCountry to B'ham.
A long way round, but probably more comfortable and more relaxed than being on a coach to Carlisle for a couple of hours.
