- even if it is frowned upon by the higher-ups.

I think they used to call it "getting the job done" or some other crazy old world term.
Our MD and senior Directors know it happens and they prefer to know on a "need not to know" basis !

That way they can discretely turn a blind eye and claim no knowledge if it ever went wrong.

Its quite funny when a phone call arrives from a Director of another Company..."(Our MD or one of the Director's) suggested I have a quiet word with you. I have a little problem and I need to borrow (or I need to get hold of, ete, etc..."

Amazingly the one organisation that does NOT accept this is.....wait for it.....Yes, Network Rail.

I lent some staff to the maintenance people a little while back when one of their jobs was going bad. Basically they had not planned it at all and they had insufficient men.

For my trouble I was hauled up to NR HQ and given a very severe dressing down......for lending their maintenance organisation staff and preventing an over-run :roll::roll:

What was more, is that the cost of those men was taken out of the price for that job, and of course maintenance have no money to pay for Contractors staff.

Fortunately I have good bosses, who took the financial hit, but now we no longer assist unless we have a signed purchase order.
