Happened around lunchtime apparently.
Happened around lunchtime, 1M08 lost pantograph on up fast, bringing down and damaging wires and Pway, Passengers eventualy detrained from 1M08, last update I saw was the up slow was open at line speed, and the down slow with a 20MPH ESR, T3 possesion was taken of the fast lines, and may well last some time into the night/early morning if things go well. virgin to run a 50% service and london midland are trying to run a full service with delays apparently, however as all departures from euston were suspended until just before the evening peak we will see how things go!

1304/1324/1342 arrivals from Man Picc arrived at 1639/1651/1659 respectively !
First Up EBW for some time is the 1620 ex Wolves currently just terminated 24 o/t.
Last down EBWs were 1723 F&S then 1823 at 1841 also F&S.
Pretty much everything is being slaughtered both ways.
Another normal day on the WCML.

Still potentially the case.
A lot of stuff is reporting 60 to in excess of 90 o/t at Crewe and the one I was on (still am) left 30 late and then was 10 mph signal to signal from south of Hemel Hempstead to north of Berkhamsted thus losing a further 48 mins.
No sign of any work at Berko although the Fasts are blocked and everything is running on the Slows.
Up services appear to be running through without problem but Down services are being massacred with waiting for a path on the Down Slow and the 10 mph running on the DF/DS Hemel to Berko.

Indeed, TRUST says the booked 390 for that journey was 390053 - can anyone else confirm it that was indeed the 390 involved as sometimes allocations are put into TOPS which feeds TRUST then you have swaps later on due a maybe a fault on the booked train which might need another train to takeover it's workings.

The local radio news says there is only 1 track running in the affected area today, can anyone confirm that?
Also does anyone have any views why this particular section of line has been affected so much recently? I never hear of any serious issues on the WCML north of Rugby (unless I am not listening)?

The FCC website is now reporting 30 minute delays due to overhead wire problems on the ECML at Welwyn Garden City.
Update: East Coast site says the problem is in the Hatfield Area. Several northbound EC services are shown as being almost an hour late.
I assume that services are now being diverted round the Hertford Loop?

Not affecting me, but does that include VWC Staff Passes?

Your attitude is appalling if you're being serious.
You have been instructed/told to accept all VWC tickets, you are not to decide what VWC to accept/refuse. A VWC staff pass, is by every means, a ticket valid for travel on VWC, regardless of who it is holding the ticket.
If a member of staff that I was supervising turned in late because you had refused this (temporarily) valid ticket or pass, I would have made every effort to find you and speak to your superiors. I personally would issue a Form 1.
On a different note, if you are a railwayman yourself you should appreciate that a lot of staff, their partners and children may be experiencing more difficulty in getting around than usual.
Don't ever ask any other railwaymen for favours next time you're a bit stuck getting about.
I was told by the info controller they managed to get 1 line open a few hours after, then a while later another (1 up and 1 down)

Yep 1 track working from Bourne End to Tring commenced at 00:15 and when I left work the handback est had been pushed back to 06:15. All trains were running on the up slow and at one point the backlog of freights waiting to get through at Tring was backed all the way to a couple of signals north of Leighton Buzzard!

That sort of thing is hardly a novelty down here! I know up in Wales you haven't even heard of station clocks, let alone LED indicators and CIS screens!

I got back to the flat after 2300 last night and was back out first thing to wait an hour and a half at New St for a service to Euston.
Most of the Up peak Class 1s were slaughtered around Bourne End some ending up 40 odd late in Euston.
The first Down EBW was 90 odd late approaching New St, where it pined.
I wish I had stayed in the Netherlands.
This whole WCML situation is getting silly now and becoming a fiasco. When will someone get wise and take maintenance out of Network Rail's hands and give it back to people who know what they are doing ?

I suspect it was said tongue in cheek ?
In the Railway Industry todays competitor is tomorrow's employer.
Even though the major Infrastructure Companies are in competition with one another, there is still an unwritten rule, right up to senior level that supports "mutual aid".
In an emergency staff / materials will always be made available to a competitor discretely, as only a very foolish individual would refuse to help out, and there is still a culture of "Railway Industry" within the Contractors, who primarily are still employing ex BR staff and are happy to do so unlike some other organisations.
I think you find that in most industries involving maintenance. In traffic signals for instance, the three major companies all help each other out at a local level, getting parts swapped over or technical help - even if it is frowned upon by the higher-ups.
I think they used to call it "getting the job done" or some other crazy old world term.
