I've never fully understood why we got rid of the 150 fleet. They would be absolutely fine on many of the routes as you've said. But for some reason we sent them down to Wales years ago.
As I say, we do need the capacity. And it probably does make sense for us to have only the three fleets of diesel trains. But 158s on Motherwell-Cumbernauld is just criminal. It's not uncommon for that train to have less than ten passengers on it! If we had put the displaced 158s on Shotts services, it would be totally sensible and, as I've said above, you'd get the same overall result and we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

There again, I'm guessing that the 11:53 Glasgow to Euston could be very busy, with it being the last direct Saturday Glasgow to Euston via the North West during April.
