I don't know about you lot but I can't stand Wimbledon. The thing that REALLY gets up my nose about it is that the BBC literally rams it down your throat by broadcasting it on BBC1, BBC2 and Radio 5 live all day without any alternative choice. Tennis is a rubish game in the first place, same old people winning - playing tournament after tournament week-in and week-out. YAWN!

Well, I don't agree. I always enjoy the Wimbledon fortnight, I think it brings a refreshing change from sports like F1 and Rugby. On the subject of Wimbledon, I hope that Murray wins. But my wife seems to have taken a fancy to Nadal :roll:

Once again, the press and television will make totally unrealistic hype about Andy Murray, as they did incessently every year without fail when Tim Henman was playing. Murray and Henman share the distinction of never winning a single Grand Slam.

Murray was systematically dissected at the French Open in a very embarressing way.

Also BBC1 HD and BBC HD this year. I could live with Wimbledon if they only showed the highlights and the final. Not even the World Cup gets that much coverage.

Hours upon hours of two people hitting a ball back and forth is meant to be fun?! I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants it to rain throughout

I agree. I could manage highlights and the final but what the BBC does is just way over the top. It wouldn't be so bad if demand justified it but very few people watch or play tennis in this country.

Can't stand any form of blanket sports coverage. It was horrific having to come home after school to sacrifice BBC2 to the snooker God, and thus missing The Simpsons and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Well, my mum was (and is) mad about it, so it used to be two weeks of learning to cook and clean (and I'm still not very good at either). I'd much rather have the cricket back on terrestrial. You can follow that on the radio, so it's possible to write while it's on and look up from time to time. Maybe today you would be able to get the radio commentary through the telly and synched up with the picture.

I adore tennis and snooker. Much better than F1, and the other garbage that fills up TV nowadays. If it wasn't for the aforementioned two sports and Match of the Day, I wouldn't own a TV. Don't like it? GET OVER IT. It's on for 1/26th of a year, much less than most other crap that makes it on TV...

I think its fairly open this year - Nadal is chronically injured, Federer is losing his way, Djokovic has off days, and hass breathing problems, all Murray has to do is keep himself together and concentrate...

I have to say, it's a relief compared with most of the time when BBC News is the most watchable thing on. Mind you, I still hope for the day I never have to put up with daytime television again.

So do thousands of other professional players.

To be fair, they cannot be compared other than being British. Murray has been to 3 grand slam finals now, something Henman never did but granted, Murray was destroyed in all three.

I believe he will win one though, he is a very good player, it just seems to be the mental side that lets him down, especially in the actual finals.

Aah, the good old British prayer.......we can win this if all the top players pull out with injuries.

Its the same before a world cup, England just need to avoid Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy until the finals and we have a great chance.

Lets hope all the Brits get knocked out in the first round and we will be spared the sound of silly little girls aged 10-40 shouting "Come on Tim" or whoever is the latest loser to wet themselves over.

Glad you recognise it as crap. I know it's only on 1/26th of the year but when it is on, you don't have any other choice but to watch it which is way out of order in my opinion. And when it's not on, you can always flick over to the other sports channels for the remaining 23/26th to watch all the other boring, round-the-year tennis tournaments. Overkill or what!

I have to agree, I would much rather watch Wimbledon than the other rubbish BBC would have on a weekday afternoon. It's so difficult to find something good to watch outside the hours of 19.30-21.30 now...

I can because I work. But that doesn't make blanket coverage of it ok, especially when most people don't like it.

I don't particularly like Wimbledon, but it's only two weeks, and even a relatively disinterested person like myself can get into a few of the more exciting matches.

Unfortunately, it's often not very exciting, and you cna pretty much write off BBC2 for the duration, so it is the saturation coverage that annoys me most.

Still, you could say the same thing about tournaments in other sports!

As much as I love Wimbledon, I can foresee a day when all the coverage (aside from the highlights and finals) is on the red button. Indeed, I don't see why that shouldn't apply for other sports as well, including the Football World Cup, Olympics, and Commonwealth Games (to name but a few). In fact, I could argue that this could be extended to other events that currently aren't broadcast. So, sticking with tennis for now, you would be able to broadcast all of the other Grand Slams on the red button without affecting the trash that's currently shown in the afternoon. Even at the moment, there are several courts on display via the red button (the main channel covers one court, but you can often get other matches on the other courts by pressing the red button).

In all fairness, only very rarely do they ever broadcast Wimbledon on both BBC1 and BBC2 simultaneously (and only for a few seconds/minutes at that).

Most of the BDO darts is on the red button. It means people cna watch it if they want to, but others can also get their fix of soaps! I'm all for it!

To be fair it's nowhere near as bad as the bloody Olympics, quite possibly the most over-hyped sporting event going.
