My ticket was checked by a cross country officer and he informed me that I have booked a discounted ticket (16-17) and my ticket will be invalid. He told me he needed to check the ticket and get back to me.

He got back to me and charged me for a new fare which i paid, he further asked me why have used the 16-17 while I don't have a rail card and if someone else uses my account. I responded to hin that I really don't know what happened and I used my account alone.

He told me he would need to investigate this and left politely. He didn't collect any information from me, and I paid the new fare, which he issued me a receipt.

To add, I suspects that somehow I might have clicked this railcard thing some weeks back when I had a discussion with a friend about rail card and must have booked discounted tickets in the past 1-2 weeks.

Please I need an advise, will I be getting any letter or email? I'm totally in experience.

I assume you buy your tickets online, given how you describe the situation.

If you were sold a new ticket then that will be the end of the matter for this offence. However, as he took your ticket, they will now be able to investigate your online account, so you may get a letter asking you in relation to the other instances you mention. You’ve already told him that you are the only person that uses that account, which removes the defence that tickets bought in that account t were for someone else.

I’m afraid you will just have to wait now and see if you are contacted. But in the meantime, make sure you buy the correct ticket from now on, and if you want to benefit from a railcard discount then buy one first,

Hi.

How did you buy your ticket please, through one of the websites?
From train line.

Please I may know how I will be contacted as he didn't ask me for an address or email address to be contacted.

Do you have a Trainline account? If so, there’s your answer. If you don’t have an account then it will be more difficult for them to trace you.
