Given that modern LU trains don't have opening cab windows, I'd imagine it's more comfortable to run with the offside door open in warm weather than to swelter like the passengers back in the saloon.![]()
Most rolling Stock is now fitted with some form of cab air-cooling/conditioning equipment. A little difficult in an S Stock !The best thing to do in summer as a passenger is to stand next to one of the droplights in the end carriage doors.
