Why don't the Class 345s have toilets?

I dont know about the western section thats abroad, but in my homeland Maryland to Romford the toilets on the stations were removed
years ago and to cut costs the Local Authorities removed the public toilets on the streets around Maryland to Manor Park
I realise there is a vandal problem but I am sure they could include a unisex toilet in the entrance area of the stations which have been refurbished

But toilets aren't needed. Crossrail is high frequency with frequent stops, if you are caught short you can hop of at the next station which is a couple minutes away, use the toilets there and hop on the next train. All the crossrail stations will/already have toilets.

What happens with a completely failed train in the tunnels sections as no toilets within the anticipated 5 mins or so between stations?

Another question is that when one does fail down a tunnel how is the rescue to be made? Can a dead unit be pushed by another? Will these scenarios be tested before opening. Are you allowed to detrain and walk to the next station as no third rail? Can you detrain in the space provided?

Also without power in a tunnel how long before the computer gives up and wont allow a reboot without an engineer with a fancy lap top. Perhaps there should be IT connections along the tunnel to enable the drive to plug the train in and remote diagnose from base?

Remembering the great freeze fiasco at Lewisham, hopefully this will all be sorted out (?) Recall pass detrained after 3 hours with no toilets etc

Yes, they showed it in one of the BBC Crossrail documentaries (series 3 I think).

Yes, there is a walkway in the tunnel.

Not sure if that is a thing? If the OHLE is the problem then the train will just stay stationary on the onboard batteries till it they run out, if that happens I will imagine they will evacuate the passengers along the walkway to the closest station and when the OHLE comes back the train will be moved.

Not that useful if the OHLE is offline. If there is an issue with the onboard computers then they will probably need to send someone onsight anyway. Also very difficult to do, copper wires cannot go that far so fibre would have to be used, not impossible but not that useful.

The passengers at Lewisham should have been evacuated earlier.

The provision of walkways does change the game with evacuations - being much safer they must surely be a much earlier resort than when people have to walk along ballast.

It's entirely possible that in some failure situations, the toilet may become unusable anyway.

Game changer with Crossrail are the tunnel emergency walkways, for egress in such a situation.

I wouldn't object to paying to use a modern automated convenience as long as I could use my Oyster card, preferably included in daily capping. They could even make it free for Freedom Pass holders.

What happens on the Underground with a completely failed train in the tunnelled sections with no toilets and only two doors to get off the train via a ladder if you’re lucky?
