White light on top of train

Today at Birmingham New Street, I saw a train passing by with a bright white light on top of the carriage. It was dark, so I couldn't identify which TOC it was. Does anybody know what this could have been?

Was it near the pantograph, where the train gets the power from the overhead wires? It may have been a camera and light pointing at the pan or the wires to detect possible problems with either.

the entire 379 fleet is fitted with them. And another at the front pointing sharply down onto the track. Add in the two headlights and the marker light above the corridor connector, they're quite the Christmas tree at night. Especially on a damp misty early morning with the pantograph sparking- a 12 car is a superb sight!

104 also fitted. The 377s that use the west coast also have them too.

The 379s passing through St Albans all have them - very visible when they pass St Albans South signal box and we're up on the 1st floor as these pantograph lights are then only a little below our eye-level!

surely you mean 387s? 379s don't go through St Albans, they'd have problems south of Farringdon
