Which pubs should have a microstation?

The Verdin Arms, Minshull Vernon (the nearby station closed in 1942 and had hitherto had a very infrequent service).

The Cheshire Line Tavern, Cheadle - it is the former Cheadle (CLC) station and the line is still extant (for freight traffic).

If the line was still open, the Rope & Anchor, Dunham Massey.

Although they may as well 'start again' with the pub, too. Not the nicest!

Saved by a vociferous campaign. One of London’s best pubs.

Good atmosphere, and great beer, but in urgent need of a good clean the last time I was there five or so years ago; honestly, absolutely filthy!

Depending on what you are interested in, there are several real ale and not so real ale pub crawls from the station using the tram.
There are plenty of guides and write ups.
The football ground is further out not so well served but there are few.

That is very true. I just wanted to take the opportunity to plug the Stocksbridge line reopening!

Kenlis Arms at the site of the old Garstang & Barnacre station would be better - its still a pub, not a poncy eatery

The Waiting Room in Morningside is a horrible pub but, as the name may indicate, used to have a great station out the back.

The Waiting Room isn’t one of my favourites ( prefer The Hermitage ) but it’s a 70s/80s building. Was there a pub on the site when the Station was open?

I think the pub postdates the station, see this wonderful Flickr collection of views of the Sub (not mine) - pic shows a 1976 view with no pub, but the station closed before that.

Tramlines Festival might be a good starting point- it's an annual (in normal circumstances) multi-venue music event but all venues are served by the trams as the name suggests. I'm pretty sure they're all licensed venues and once the lockdown is lifted they'll probably be grateful for the custom.

If it cost as much as HS2 to build a branch line from Harrington to Loweswater, it'd be worth it just for easy access to the Kirkstile Inn.

From station use the Blue tram to Malin Bridge,( there are dozens of pubs, bars, foodbars, eats and whatever along the route along West St and Glossop Road. Get off at University for Bath Hotel and University Arms) pubs. Then carry on to Shalesmooor for the Wellington, Ship, Shakespeare, KIT, Fat Cat, Riverside ets

The walk alternative from/to, the station along the river is flat and passes some interesting pubs

Indeed. The Gardeners Rest in Neepsend is arguably the best pub in Sheffield. Right opposite is the long-derelict Stones Brewery; a sad sight, even though their beer was pretty awful.

The Good Beer Guide-listed Clachnaharry Inn right next to the railway on the outskirts of Inverness could qualify for a microstation; indeed it used to have a station, and the station footbridge is still there and in use. Fortunately, you can get a bus from the centre of Inverness, or reach it by walking along the Caledonian Canal.

Here is a picture of it in 2013 and again in 2019.

Never had the chance to try it for myself, but the Whistle Stop at Tallington always looks quite appealing when passing on the East Coast Main Line.

Interesting pictures. Given its position, presumably the red dot on the swing bridge counts as a railway stop signal, rather than having some sort of shipping function.

Newcastle does have some decent pubs near the station; it deserves an alternative inside the station to the aesthetically superb but in other respects p***-poor Centurion Bar.lO
