Could this be a Southern Railway location perhaps? The Way Out sign seems to have a green background as does the sign on the building to the left side of the oil/gas lamp. It could of course be just a tint on the film itself.

It doesn't "feel" Southern to me - although I accept my opinion's got about the value of a franked 30p stamp.

What's kind of unusual (to me) is the lack of signals. There's no starter on the opposite track, and you can't see a signal protecting the trailing crossing at the end of the platform.

For what it's worth I suggested - on another forum - that it is Weybourne on
the North Norfolk Railway - trees and curve are not dissimilar.

Here's an idea, folks. The soldier's badge cap is almost certainly that of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, based in Wrexham. The station has no signalling and a building made of wood. Was there somewhere in that region (north Welsh border country) a temporary station erected for the army, perhaps even in WW1? It certainly doesn't look as though it was new in 1940!

The hill's too tall – and where's the tunnel at Weybourne?

Details, details...I'm outta here...

Several of the companies had standard modular building systems using timber panels, so someone with the relevant knowledge might at least be able to identify the company that built it. All I can establish is that the best known one, the LNWR's, had horizontal planking and didn't match this in several other ways.

The scene is slightly familiar, and I would place it in southern England not Northern, but I can't get any further. I agree that the surrounding footage is Up North but not the station.
I think I can make out a platform starter and, beyond it, a signalbox. Not unusual for the home signal not to be close to the platform.
Is that a station nameboard low down on the building, dark letters on light background?

Given that it is colour film- I wonder if it was on the lead up to D Day and shot using an American film unit- in which case a Southern/ South West location is viable.

I am more inclined to think that this is a GW station and quite probably Wales, given the military connection I mentioned earlier.

I believe that this may be Marlborough. The tunnel, curve and what looks like a junction behind the loco all fit.
Further in the brief clip of the troops getting off the train there can be seen some steam to their right which could be a loco in Marlborough Upper sidings.
All long gone. of course.

I believe you are correct. Very well done if it is.

The building on the left platform seen here at Marlborough is a very good fit for the building posted upthread:

https://goo.gl/images/tmbBMv

Give that man a free year's subscription! (assuming he's correct).

Now there's a forgotten and forlorn railway. Would that an Ivo Peters had adopted that M&SWJR.

Still a very busy army area of course.
Good work sir.
Now the rest of us orrible lot should report to our Drill Sergeant for some square bashing.

Sorry folks but I am far from convinced by this.

1. Where is the hill in the background? It cannot be Postern Hill at Marlborough. If you were looking in that direction (south of east) from the platform the curve in the line would change from left to right at that point. In our mystery photo the line continues its curve through the station. If you were looking along the curve at Marlborough in the manner of the photo (west) then you would not see Postern Hill.

2. In the second photo (of the soldiers with kitbags on the platform), the building has no awning like that in the photos of Marlborough. The end wall is different.

3. The gas lamps in our mystery photos are distinctive with very tall finials. They do not match those on the photos of Marlborough.

Found out where it is! Its Wentworth and Holyland near Wentworth, Yorkshire.

https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.484438,-1.4516994,934m/data=!3m1!1e3

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wentworth_railway_station

After a bit digging I found out the end credits which had the archive footage sources.

The clip was in the middle of a sequence from the Yorkshire Film Archive so guessed it was from there.

And Bingo!

Congratulations! I was way out thinking it was down South (though it is South Yorkshire)

Bl**dy well done, sir!

An obscure and little photographed station, hence the difficulty in identifying it.

Now, if we could just identify the loco...

I spent a good deal of time following the Royal Welsh Fusiliers angle. And churches. Your film shows that the rest of the archive scenes in the Churchill video were indeed from other sources, as I suspected.

That was one of the first videos that popped up when I searched but didn't click on it as I was thinking "Sure what has motorbikes got to do with trains" and focused on the home guard thing.

Was 40 mins before I clicked on it and there it was right in front of me!:{

Came across some other interesting stuff as well so was not a wasted hour.

Have to say I was convinced that the loco was a GWR 0-6-0 and it may have been filmed post 1948 (poor state of the station, Red/crimson coaches and black loco).

And we can say that, thanks to steveT, we have a record of this station now.

Must be thousands that existed and no picture exits but footage does.

My Marlborough suggestion received erroneous praise.
Bravo dubscottie.
What is interesting is that the original picture showed what seemed to be a rural location whereas if the camera had been turned 180 degrees it would have shown a completely industrial scene.

Well done Dubscottie. It turns out that the station in question was surprisingly local to me, I'm going to see if I can get to what's left of it and take a photo to post here as a 'then & now', access depending.

If you could manage that it would be excellent Iskra, and I too take my hat off to Dubscottie I'm quite certain there's been plenty of headaches on here whilst searching in vain trying to locate that spot.
