I did used to like the Welsh 37/4s. I think I only ever managed a run behind one of them but I had quite a few of the Scottish ones in the end.
I only managed 37430 in BR days, in 1989 from Dovey Junction to Aberystwyth at the age of 7. My older brother and I made sure to note the number as we exited at Aber after a day of 150s that were novel that morning but dull as ditchwater by the end of the day tripping up and down the Coast!
Got a handful of the rest under FNW, ATN, and Serco/Abellio Northern.

Was always surprised that 37431 Bullidae was chosen for one of Bachmann's models, being the shortest-lived of the sub-class.

Edit: on the Scottie dog logo thing, it just doesn't quite work for me- not just because I'm not modelling Scotland- it's more that it seems a bit of a tourist cliché, like if instead of a white rose, the original WYPTE logo on the side of DMUs had been a whippet!

The logos were a craze in the 1980's I think started by the Stratford Sparrow. Lots of depots had a logo, the Scottie dog was all about the depot pride nowt about tourists! Some became formal with metal plates.

Oh I know- just on a personal level it is slightly irritating that it was never easy to find a large logo 37 that didn't have the West Highland Terrier on the side- presumably because there's more glamour associated with the Fort Bill sleepers than the Cambrian. The "tourist" thing was more about how the model manufacturers milked it, rather than how it got there in the first place.

I do wish they still existed as I quite like them, both the regional or local connotations and the pride.

Currently building a micro/diorama dries/sand type layout potentially for display or to take to my model club shows.
All spurred on by this impulse acquisition: "Bagged a Bagnall!"

Anyone else manage to get to the exhibition/fair at Doncaster Racecourse today or tomorrow?

Must say the turnout was pretty substantial, and top marks to the organisers who in connection with First managed to put a shuttle bus on between the station and venue.

As it's my 40th tomorrow, I decided to treat myself to this lightly-weathered Bachmann 37 in Regional Railways colours. Apparently was "old new stock" from a retailer that closed. Apologies for the poor photo.

One particularly interesting locomotive on one of the layouts was this- sadly was not available for purchase!:

That’s an excellent looking 37, glad you got a good price on it too. I’m looking for an early 90’s 37 myself but can’t quite decide on which livery to get as there is so much choice.

I've also a couple of ViTrains 37s (430 in Transrail which is a bit modern for the rest of my fleet, and 429(?) in triple grey construction)- 430 may have to go to make room for the new addition, but for now it's in storage so not an urgent problem. They're pretty decent models but are a bit shown up by the more modern Bachmann ones.

I was rather tempted by the small number of RealTrack class 144s that were for sale at Doncaster, but the prices were a bit much for me- £250 for the Metro/Northern "semi-circles" ones, or an eye-watering £350 for one which had been professionally repainted into the revised (narrow stripe) version of Metro "raspberry ripple".

I have a very long wish list plus impulse options but I follow a very strict bargain price only policy bar a few new specials & even then as Hornby found out, put the price up 50% on my pre-order & they can keep it!

I sell stock that's at the bottom of my scorecard & only when I can at least recover the initial purchase price.

That’s a nice collection you have! I’d love a WYMetro 144, but yes the prices are phenomenal. I do have one of their 156’s in RR Scotrail and it is a fantastic model however.

I'm going to continue to blame lockdown fever for my having a larger than necessary loco fleet! Those RealTrack 156s are very impressive, I remember being impressed with the level of detail on the Lima ones when they first came out, but the hobby has moved on so much since then that they really do look like toys in comparison.

Havent bought any locos for a while now...last one was GT3.
However I do have the Bulleid Leader inbound from KR models...!
I do have a model of most diesel classes and prototype locos plus many steam locos. I think I have around 120 loco models. Could be more tbh

In this weeks episode of "Dear God I Should Stay off eBay"

Firstly a Fleischmann T2000 articulated pocket wagon complete with 4 20ft tank containers. Totally interchangeable with normal containers and road trailers.

DSC_0879.JPG

And then secondly a Trix BR111. Means I've finally got a regional local for my regional coaches as everything was feeling very express-y. Two strange features on this. Firstly Trix obviously assumed there is a big market for masochism in German N scale modellers so this features the ability to use overhead power supply assuming you want to try and make that work in N. And secondly its a slightly older model from the change from DC to DCC. So its sort of DCC ready. There is no socket but on top of the PCB are six relatively large clear solder points to hardwire a DCC chip. Also features see through bodyside windows with visible motor but sort of works anyway and can easily be thought to represent the internals.

Not knowing much about the stuff you’re into I find what you’ve said absolutely fascinating.
I mean N gauge working OHLE? Has anyone ever made that work?

I try, I understand it's a bit out there for a UK forum.

RE the OHL the good people of Viessman provide off the shelf parts to do it alongside their normal offerings. They've even thought of cheaper bits to do tunnels and fiddle yards. Strangely though I've only seen two locos able to use it and both have been slightly older Trix locos so presumably it's not widespread. It's worked by a switch underneath so I guess the whole layout has to be wired to use one rail as part of the circuit and the other isolated while completing the circuit with the overheads. Seems like a lot of effort for something entirely invisible.

That's some nice stock! And the thought of N gauge cantenary is just wow, it's quite rare to see it in working condition on OO let alone N!

I know I've not responded much to this thread but I've read it all and loving the new additions people have shared. Such variety in what people collect!

A new acquisition, but can anyone guess the relevance to Fort George?

View attachment 111144
Certainly ScotRail obtained some ex-NSE Mk2s in 1990 to provide cover for routes where the issues with the new 158s caused delivery delays and 156s were transferred from certain routes such as Inverness-Aberdeen to provide cover on the ScotRail Express routes.

But I associate the NSE Mk2s, some of which had the red stripe overpainted with a blue ScotRail stripe, with Inverness-Aberdeen where they primarily operated.

There was also the limited summer use of loco hauled trains on Glasgow-Fort William, Edinburgh-Inverness from 1991-1994 but IIRC those carriages were all Mk2As painted in Regional Railways colours.

Anyway, enough rambling on - what is the relevance pray tell? ;)

Edit: Oh and nice coach BTW

Well yes, that's all correct and you are very close. I’ve seen a video of at least one former NSE vehicle with a BR Green class 26 and/or 37’s on the Kyle Line in the early 90’s, so I thought I’d model that…

...Although, now I need an appropriate-liveried 37, but there's too many good ones to choose from and I can't decide which one to get :D

Oh right, in fact that's a good point - I should have added the Kyle workings to my 1991-1994 summer loco-hauled workings, an unforgiveable omission.

The Green Highlander Mk2s were quite unique of course.

I've seen a photo of the Highlander Mk2s with a single ex-NSE Mk2 interloper - complete with blue painted stripe:

I don't think there were any BSO though, only TSO and all 2Z with vacuum brakes.

Edit: I meant BFK not BSO and in fact there were - three BFK in fact, nos. 17064, 17089 and 17091

I thought I’d seen one with a yellow first class stripe, but I could well be wrong from the grainy 90’s VHS footage. But either way, I’m going to need to use rule 1 to run a realistic rake. I can’t find a Highlander Mk2 Brake at a sensible price, and as the maximum realistic train length on my layout is 3/4 coaches, with the 2 carriages from the above pack I’d need to include a Brake vehicle in the consist so an NSE Mk2 brake is solving that problem.

Hmm, a quick renumber and recolour of the stripe would work if you felt so-inclined.

3/4 isn't unrealistic, 4 was quite common particularly outside the sunmer peak and I have seen a three-coach Highlander set.

I think the 2A BFK were declassified, certainly one running in an Aberdeen-Inverness set was running as a BSK.

I'll have a look about for some more photos.

Nice, I like that and I as you know, I do like a motley rake of coaches. :)
What locos will you run them with @Iskra?
My green class 26 is suitable, as could be my BR Large Logo Blue 47 but really I could do with an early 1990's 37 like in the video below which also shows BR Green 26's. I'm just a bit indecisive about which livery class 37 to go for.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather
My latest acquisition is an OO Airfix Class 31 in green. Reasonably decent nick, including the box.

A bonus was managing to find a video in relation to a mechanical overhaul and clean but this, along with many other projects will have to wait until retirement

I am looking forward to the arrival of the Accurascale Class 31's :D

That’s a great video. I did Kyle to Inverness behind a Dutch 37 the year after on the green and cream set. I don’t what I’d choose out of Dutch, Triple Grey or Large Logo to be honest. I’d probably go for Dutch, but you might have to get more than one just to be on the safe side… ;)

That sounds a good find. How long until you retire?

Simple: all the liveries, all of them... ;)

(Yes I appreciate that might be a tad expensive, but what are second and third and fourth mortgages good for if not investing in model railways after all?)
