Assuming they are for the DOO CCTV monitors, the platform will be to allow access to and from them, and provide a working platform that complies with Legislation. The fence will also allow work to be carried out with trains running, whereas without it, the line would have to be blocked.Photo taken at New Southgate today.
Why are the steps needed.
To feed the elephant trapped under the box on the left? (Sorry, in a silly mood)
I assume that they are for the new DOO monitors. These have been installed at several other stations on the GN route recently, in many cases replacing existing mirrors.
Platform 4 at Potters Bar the DOO is on the non-platform side of the train, so it is on the driver's side (the platform is on the right of the train). Presumably also due to the location of the station buildings which would mean if the DOO was on the platform it would cause an obstruction for passengers.
There obviously is no choice for the fast lines other than to put the DOO on the platforms.

There are a couple of structures similar to this that have appeared outside Moor St, Birmingham. There aren't any mirrors at the station to replace.
Any ideas?
Sorry to hijack your thread, by the way![]()
Seems to make sense to me. Though I use that platform every week and it always seems packed, so I don't see what difference a DOO would make!![]()
There is a walking route next to the main line because there is a shunting point allowing a train to go from snow hill to the new bay platforms. Don't recall it looking exactly like that but it does have metal guard rail(s) like that.
Ive also seen vaguely similar platforms installed for location cabinets. Not so high though.
Thanks for your reply. I've only seen them a few times and I always forget to look. I'm generally looking longingly at the Wrexham Shropshire HST wishing I were travelling further than I am.

To be pedantic, theres a couple of flaws with that statement: Firstly, Wrexham and Shropshire never operated any HSTs, its 67+carriages+DVT working in push-pull mode, and secondly, its Chiltern thats running the W&S stock from Moor Street now that Wrexham and Shropshire are defunct, only the livery (and the exquisitely refurbished interiors) remains. Ok, pedantry finished.I'm generally looking longingly at the Wrexham Shropshire HST wishing I were travelling further than I am.
I think we will find many users guilty as charged when it comes to not paying attention because of a HST, myself included!![]()

Yeah I can understand that feeling! My mistake. I hurriedly typed that so I didn't miss my stop. I did indeed miss out the word "liveried" after Wrexham Shropshire.
Apologies for the flippant use of "HST" also. I'll be more specific next time. My original point still stands, I wish I were travelling further than I need to on a grotty 150![]()

Agreed, they look like new drivers side DOO visual display support and access structures
Presumably there are new CCTV cameras further along the platform
From a speed limits point of view, "HST" refers to any of: 91+Mk 4s+DVT; Class 158, 159, 168, 170, 171, 175, 180, 220, 221, 222, 253(sic), 254(sic) or 373.Apologies for the flippant use of "HST" also. My dear beloved friends. Tis the spankingly new Platform 5 at the station, thanks to the wisdom of the new government, it is achieved with a 99% reduction in building costs.
Which station is this? I must've missed something...
I would say plenty...
The attached pictures at the start of this thread! They're new exclusive pictures of the new budget platform 5For the second time this week I have made some ridiculous mistake on the forum...
