Starting in Bridgend, these routes provide important lifeline links along the route. However if you think you can reach the end of the route on one bus, you'll be mistaken. You will have to change to another bus which will bear the same number as the one you were previously travelling on!

Nope. 172 is a direct through working with the 72 as far as I know.

This route is run by First Cymru.

Yuh-huh! They're the ones. 32 and 36 run Bridgend to Cymmer, but if you want to get to Glyncorrwg or Abercregan you have to change buses at Cymmer to a different 32 or 36. No idea why really, but it's been like that for as long as I can recall.

The urban end of the route is Southend, hence my being able to post this one without looking anything up.

The 8 doesn't go to Ashingdon. The 7 is a tale of failure caused by Arriva themselves. Both run together.

I didn't actually say both are wrong did I...? My bad.

The 21 is not correct either. It is however a better guess, because it does at least match the alternate route bit - in that its route parallels (and crosses over one more than one occasion) the A13. But the new route follows a different route to the old incarnation, not other existing routes.

OK. The 8 doesn't serve Ashingdon; it served Hawkwell. This difference aside, they are the same route.

One of the good things about doing Southend here is that only a couple of others, only two of whom ever appear in the Quiz Forum, know much about Southend.

I don't actually know much about the new open-top route. When I wanted to check last week my bus to Southend arrived late - unsurprisingly - so I didn't get the chance!

You are right to go with 61. Until council cutbacks in roughly 2004/5 (I forget when exactly), it ran along Sutton Road. Then Stephenson's reintroduced the number on a similar route, but using the nearby Bournemouth Park Road instead. Traditionally it was run by First and their previous incarnations, but was for a while operated by Arriva (in a rare period of them actually doing quite well, unlike now).

If you want to see a route that requries only one bus to run that changes model every day, the 61 is a good bet. It isn't unknown for it to have a Solo one day and a decker the next - in spite of SE having a 61-branded Dart...

I'm not really a bus person, but:

A reasonably impressively indirect route between the end of a tube line and Hayes and Harlington station. Going through a business park, as well as quite a number of other interesting places you didn't intend on going to.

Hopefully I haven't failed at any of the rules there.

Hopefully a route I use from work occasionally - 350? It is a nice direct route to T5 and certain sections have very few bus stops which speeds it up no end when compared with the U3 (the equivalent route to the central part of Heathrow).

Yes, the U5.

I wasn't planning on being in the area, otherwise I would have. When I found out that West Drayton was on the cards I was somewhere near Hammersmith. Coming from Wembley. Fun times.

Train from West Drayton to Hayes is conclusively much faster than bus.

Although, having said that, given the Met was pretty much at a standstill... maybe not. Unless the 607 appeals!

Train doors slammed in my face at West Drayton, so I decided to get the bus. Which was much more fun as I saw a lot more of outer West London, but did mean I missed something like the next 5 trains as well.

I semi-anticipated the Met might have issues, the second time I passed Baker Street things were already grinding to a halt, and there must have been about 3 hours in between.

Anyway, buses.
