Mount Edgcumbe. More specifically, heading over from Plymouth for a brief paddle and wander through the gardens, and timing it just right to stop off at the Edgcumbe Arms for half a pint of Thatchers' Juicy Apple, looking out over a glorious blue sea and a cloudless sky, and watching the little ferry come sputtering over the water to bring a huge crowd of people back. There's not much that feels nicer than timing something just right.

Back to winning ways for Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the One-Day Cup cricket. A 6 wicket win over Surrey, at the Oval, sees them progress to the quarter finals stage.

Actually it was yesterday, when my older granddaughter got her A level results and confirmation of a place at Exeter University to read Medicine.

Normal service has been resumed - the kids are back @ School over here, cue chaos on the roads.

Well, in Surrey the schools have not resumed. I was VERY happy today because I went with my ex-wife (we get on well!), my daughter and 3 year old grandson to a local playground. Some kind children, about 6 years old, politely opened the gate for us without being asked and we thanked them after we had gone through. It was wonderful to see all the children in the playground running around and laughing, none of them using any phones or screens. I saw children patiently waiting turns and no queue jumping for a go on the equipment. It made this old man very happy indeed to see that at least some young children are being brought up with manners, politeness and selflessness.

This probably wouldn't make most people happy but I have a very dark sense of humour and I'm still grinning.

I'm staying at the Voco Bloomsbury for work purposes for the next few days. First and will be last time I think based upon what I've seen so far; I usually stay IHG on work (which Voco is) and the nearby Holiday Inn (also IHG) is much better imo despite things being meant to be the other way around.

Anyway, some silly online conversation means I accept a challenge to eat off a 0-1 "scores on the doors" takeaway this evening - that is to say one where the hygeine rating is appalling.

So I set an AI agent on it to find me somewhere that'll deliver. Well it does that... but it also points out that I don't actually need to look very far. My hotel has the coveted 0/5 score - so ordered a decent looking curry from somewhere sensible and will instead go with the health hazard at Brekkie.

Mind you literally when typing this another incident has occurred but I can't really go into it cause I don't want to risk anyone's job, suffice to say it doesn't reflect badly on the staff but reflects very badly on the owner/manager.

Having once looked at how these ratings are comprised, I'm surprised many 0-rated businesses are allowed to stay open.

I generally have good immunity though and used to frequent a place which, when displaying the food hygeine ratings became mandatory, I learnt was rated a 1. It makes you think twice!
