What made you happy today?

With so much current war, strife, unrest etc in the world I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread just for the happy and positive things in life. I should admit that I got this idea for a thread from another forum I take part in, but all the same I think it has merit here.

Recalling positive things in life is known to benefit mental health so, what made you happy today?

I've just enjoyed a walk through my local area this morning as it is a nice sunny day and already there are signs of spring emerging. It also lifted my heart to hear the birdsong.

Just to say I'd like to ask for only positive contributions here!!!

(Mods - I did do a search for a thread like this but could not find anything - if it is not appropriate or in the wrong place please advise - thanks).

This morning I helped prevent food going to waste by booking a hot food breakfast meal from a local carvery on Too Good To Go. It came with mushrooms, tomatoes, scrambled egg, fried egg, hash brown, potato scone and baked beans!

Did you see any pigeons? I like to offer them some healthy food when I see them (seeds and grains) to make sure they're not existing just on discarded bread and sausage rolls. I'll attach a picture of some friendly ones I saw a few weeks ago. :)

I like the idea of using Too Good To Go - I will see if there is anyone in my area that does it - thanks!!

:) Blethering for just a little bit too long on my way to the station, thus arriving four minutes after my intended train's scheduled departure time. Next service not for an hour. Got to platform just as original train arrived, running some five minutes down. Result!

For the first time in 2025, I spent an hour on my allotment preparing ground for planting.

The sun was shining, I was sheltered from the wind, and it almost felt like spring.

Our very kind neighbour, while shopping at Marks & Spencer in Halifax this morning, discovered that my all-time favourite Italian red wine - Primitivo di Manduria from the Salentino peninsular in Puglia - was on special offer. She very kindly brought me back two bottles! :D

In a similar vein, checking the train times early for once in my life, and successfully leaving the house 10 minutes earlier than normal in order to catch a train that actually existed!

Excellent idea for a thread, by the way!

Seeing the neighbours 3 year old (our surrogate grandaughter) riding one of their event horses from the paddock next to us back to the stables which is about 3 miles
We followed behind and our springer ran in front, behind etc, cloudless sky and the temperature was tolerable (early 50's)

This will sound negative to start with but ends up being very positive.

Yesterday I got some clothes in M&S and their app doesn't allow you to select the individual colours just broad ones like brown, red.

Even when you select a colour, It shows all the other options individually. The sizing options are not in a logical order in the filter either.

I was in the store and I found 4 items I wanted to take away and 1 that was only online.

There was an offer and I wasn't sure if they would allow it to be applied to both.

Turns out they would and not only that, by scanning my sparks card in my app, it took the online order and added it to my shopping in the store. That's impressive. Especially after my issues with the app. So unexpected.

Now the discount was use once only.

So today I was trying on the clothing and getting a second opinion. Aren't mum's great.

So after that it was determined just one set of trousers was right out of the 4 and the one that arrived in the store today would also be wrong.

I then found another pair in my size and colour i wanted that would be OK but of course I'd used the offer. How annoying.

But no, when I went to my app to place the online order, they applied the discount! Result.

Said discount offer ends either today or tomorrow too.

So I won't lie, I was rather pleased. You could even use the word happy.

I think we are already seeing from these excellent contributions that there really are positives in life if we look for them - keep the posts coming!

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
The sun coming out here North of the Wall today. It's been far too elusive recently. Also I'm revelling in every extra second of daylight we're getting at both ends of the day.

nlogax - yep the extra daylight is very welcome - a lot of people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the dark months.

Almost every day seeing deer in the commute to work, always brings a smile.

Great idea for a thread I spend most of my time in this bit for the forum on negative parts.

Our Rhode Island Red chicken is making a slow recovery after the fox attack that killed her two companions a couple of weeks ago. Keeping fingers crossed that she maintains it...

Well at 61 I was happy to be able to go to the gym and I've just walked my daughter to Custom House station with my grandkids and as I'm walking back I'm watching the trains and dlr .

That's good enough for me. Chelsea losing tonight would be a bonus.

Last week I was on a call with a colleague on a 1-1 Teams call, when he paused to answer a call on his mobile. He forgot to mute his Teams mic. Obviously I could only hear one side of the conversation, his side, so I didn't get the full picture; but he was being asked for digits from his PIN and some other personally identifiable information, by "John Lewis", who had called him about a security alert.

I interrupted him and said mate I think that's a scam. He ummed and ahhed about it, and he's a switched on guy who works in finance, but anyway he left the Teams call and completed this call with "John Lewis".

That was a week ago on Friday. Monday comes around and he drops at the end of one of our calls that he contacted John Lewis directly who unambiguously told him it was a scam. They froze his card, and added a block to prevent gift cards being bought on his account. Happy days.

Well, today, after another work call, he mentions that at 6am this morning he had another call from "John Lewis". Only this time he told them to swivel.

We shared a laugh about it, I think he was a bit embarrassed last week so I'm glad he's taking it well this week, and he hasn't suffered any financial consequences.

That was a good result in the end.

I was over the moon to stroke 3 very well-behaved and cute dogs on the train home from Manchester on Saturday.
Similar here. I was walking over Cannock Chase yesterday in beautiful sunshine when three Cocker Spaniels came bounding towards me. All three seemed to compete with other for strokes. Wished I’d got three hands! Being Spaniels they were wet and muddy but who cares about that?

As I used to have a Golden Cocker Spaniel this really made my day.

Never mind happy today, loads of happy memories of running on Cannock Chase as a kid and getting food at the Wimpy at Milford Common afterwards, and watching the trains go by from the car park of the Barley Mow next door. Amazingly it still seems to be there 40 years later

Today I managed to rake the lawn of moss, despite rather frequent rain showers and my dodgy knee (!). It can be little things like doing this and being in the fresh air that can lift my mood and bring happiness.

A slightly strange one, perhaps - but it made me happy. I present a radio show on a community radio station (as opposed to presenting a radio show on a banana) and just after my show, the station plays a news programme called Democracy Now! which is free to community stations around the world I believe. It's normally quite simple - fade out my playing, fade up the news - but today I faded up... nothing. The ticking counter got down to 00:00 and then there was nothing on the air! This was a bit strange but to cut a long story short, the thing that made me happy was the slightly panicked but also quite enjoyable experience of then having to work out what on earth to do. In the end Spotify came to the rescue - I played a few tracks on that, between each I told the listener what was going on, and then finally we got it working again. Felt a little bit like the early days of broadcasting that I've read about, really. All good fun but I do wonder if anyone tuned in expecting the news and then got Jack Hylton instead...!
