A fragment of a jawbone found deep underground in a cave in Somerset has rewritten the story of when and how dogs became our best friends.

"DNA analysis shows the jaw belonged to one of the earliest known domesticated dogs and that people lived closely with them in Britain 15,000 years ago, thousands of years before farm animals were domesticated or cats padded into our homes.
The discovery pushes back the time that the first dogs evolved from their wolf ancestors by around 5,000 years.
It also suggests that the friendship between the very first dogs and stone age humans was there almost from the very start, according to Dr William Marsh of the Natural History Museum."

It's this in the comments section that made my day:

"Next up they'll be discovering proof that cats domesticated humans thousands of years earlier than thought."

As every cat owner knows!

The sunshine here today in southern England made me think of the Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun" (the 2019 edit) and instantly made me happy.

Edited to add "the 2019 edit"

I don't know if it's the same for all Tesco Local stores but whoever is choosing the music seems to have a liking for 70s/80s jazz funk, disco and soul.
I sometimes don't know whether to look at milk and potatoes or get up to get on down.
My local Tesco store plays same kind of music including Steely Dan. Unfortunately plays Beyonce as well but can't have everything.
Spent the day working with my best friend workmate which made the half day l changed to a full shift a good move.

Whilst out on my walk this morning I saw 60163 Tornado and its support coach heading northwards along the WCML through Stafford.

Had a phone call today, it looks like I will be able to retire before I'm 60, or indeed 59. The call was not a scam, it was pre-booked.
Mrs T came into the bedroom and was wondering why I was singing 'The money will roll right in' (Fang, Nirvana).
Then sung 'Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again!'

Anyway fingers crossed, early days yet just needs signing off and legal stuff etc.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
The long-awaited and now increasingly rumoured imminent return of Boards of Canada. I was up until 4am refreshing all the news and watching the footage of the VHS tapes that were shared to random people. From an album release perspective it will only have been a thirteen year wait. (@Ashley Hill not sure if you're aware of this?)

Boards of Canada appear to be teasing a return, after fans began sharing footage of mysterious VHS tapes allegedly sent through distribution channels linked to Warp Records and its retail arm Bleep.

Saw a song thrush in or garden this morning, the first for around ten years. They were once so common, but now rare in our neighbourhood!

Down here in the "soft south" we had a brilliantly warm day (24 degrees) so like you, I boosted my vitamin D out in the garden - it made me a happy boy.

Revisiting an old theme of mine on here, walking yesterday across high open grassland, my first skylarks of the year, heard at first and then seen. At least two of them, and possibly three, since they were at two locations some way apart.

As per the ‘classic cars’ thread, seeing a Ford GT40 whizz past me on the road this morning, looked, sounded and smelled amazing.

I'd be very happy if I were in the Netherlands today - no doubt be suffering tomorrow! just a shame Kings Day can't be in mid-summer, you would think royalty would be more careful with their planning (it's the King's birthday!).
Poster for Kings Day (Koningsdag)
