The robin tending to its fledgling in my garden, which was hopping about with varying attempts of flight. It was brilliant to see. Over the years I’ve made my garden more wildlife friendly, and it had worked. For the first time I’ve also had tadpoles which has been fascinating to watch.
I don’t like to visit my local river anymore due to increasing anti-social behaviour and witnessing catapult attacks on ducks far too often. So it’s lovely to have my own wildlife oasis.

That does sound nice. Tadpoles are a treat to watch grow!
I didn’t realise quite how ferocious they are when you feed them! Cucumber slices and fish food being especially popular.

Watching a baby grass snake take tentative exploration in our back garden - fortunately, of absolutely zero interest to our fostered German Shepherd, who turns two years old on the Solstice.
We bought him a couple of new toys, which arrived today - and his furry face of utter wonderment, as we opened the delivery box for him, was a memory I will cherish.

Actually one for the other day - a lady on my train who despite being delayed on a long distance journey looking like missing the last direct connection of the night took the time to ask after me after a long hot day before asking for the advice she needed.
Just before we arrived into her connecting station I saw that the Anglo Scottish train she ideally wanted had lost rather more time and hadn't quite hit the platform so I was able to give her and a few others the advice to head over to it's platform - it was nice to see her disappearing through the doors on her way in an easier fashion than she'd anticipated, albeit she will have gotten into Edinburgh an hour late but that's better than two hours!

The NHS working perfectly
Rang my GP on Friday morning with a health concern - weird lump under the skin on my chest. Despite the infamous "8am surge" I was 9th in the queue and got through within 5 minutes.
Offered an appointment at 9:45
GP had a look, seemed a tad concerned, and said I'd need some penicillin and an ultrasound scan. Did the prescription and referral while we were talking
By the time I'd walked out of the surgery and into the pharmacy next door my prescription was ready
Two hours later the local hospital rang to book me in for a scan
Went for the scan at 9:20 this morning
Phone call just now to say its nothing sinister and the penicillin will sort me out
3 days and 8 hours end to end, and that includes a weekend

A personal one, after a couple of difficult years.
June 2023 to June 2025, saw my wife, our son and I all made redundant from our jobs; three family bereavements and loss of our beautiful beloved German Shepherd.
Today:
- My wife passed her security clearance and confirmed start date, for a great role in the nuclear defence sector. She was one of more than 200 applicants for that role.
- Our 23 year old son, who faces many daily challenges with learning disabilities and dyspraxia and who lost his biological father a few weeks ago, created a "GoFundMe" page to raise funds for German Shepherd Rescue South (for whom we are fostering a GSD) - and, off his own initiative, he's tagged and messaged celeb dog lovers Ricky Gervais, Nicky Campbell & some other "who's who" names. An early finish at work. Trainee was being passed out by the manager, so i got a flyer. Full pay for only working about half a shift.

Not so much happy but more of a wry smile. I visited the Isaac Merritt in Paignton today to find that the ex Wetherspoons pub has finally been repainted, in BR blue!! I wonder if the owner is aware of it. A photo attached shows the stairwell from the usual upstairs toilets.

I tried to obtain some of my favourite Longley Farm Blueberry yoghurt the other day. It's made in Holmfirth, West Yorks but the only stockist local to me had none. Went in again this morning and bought his whole stock - three pots.

Look North East Yorks and Lincolnshire, we watch it on iplayer fast forward for the banter between the presenter Peter Levy and the weatherman Paul Hudson - absolutely hilarious, how those two haven't been sacked I'll never know.
They even got a mention on Have I Got News For You recently!
Always fun in this nice weather when Peter dares to wear his Man from Del Monte / Mr Whippy / Colonel Sanders white suit!

At Plymouth this morning somebody managed to get an Iron Maiden track played over the tannoy. When it was eventually turned off there were many groans if disappointment from the waiting passengers.
