What is this (bus stop)?

So this bus stop in Sharston (Manchester) has this thing in it. (I've circled it in red.) Does anyone know what it is its been puzzling me for weeks??

Just looks like a PID... A real time display like would normally be hung at right angles from the shelter roof.

It's never displayed anything and it looks more metal the screen than most PIDs

They're dot matrix displays for real time info. In all my time in manc I never saw them on though! There are a few around.

It does look like an unused or broken light fitting to me. Some of the older shelters in Lincoln have these that haven't worked for years.
Here in Nottingham the PID's are usually hung from an arm fitted to the Bus Stop sign.

That's my guess too. The ally (?) panel could come off and be replaced with a plastic light gondola.

Although there used to be some old unused ones at West Bridgford bus stops inside the shelter, similar to this. Thats what made me think it was an unused PID as it reminded me of them

If you look the lights are in the roof.

Why would a light fixture be pointing out straight towards the road, surely it would face a little down?

It is a PID system - theres an identical one at my local stop in Woodhouse Park, which worked for about 2 weeks, the started showing only the time and a load of gobbledegook for a few weeks, then died a complete death.

Yes but it looked similar. The way it also seems to be pointed slightly down suggest that it is meant to be easier to read

You may be right then. I don't go to West Bridgford much (Except passing through on the Number 1), as I live in Clifton and don't get out much .

Don't think it's the display. Think the whole system died a death. Like the one in Leicester... startrak.
