I would be amazed if normal training/commissioning runs allowed 125mph running without a rear brake unit as it is linked with braking distances. Some specific testing under test conditions with DM&EE staff, possibly, but not more widely.

No idea, but running without a DVT seems to have been fairly short-lived, so perhaps the initial tests were 100mph max.

Yes. The big timetable change was May 1988 when the loco hauled trains were replaced with class 156s and a very different timetable. Broadly speaking Norwich had 1tp2h to/from Birmingham and 1tp2h to/from Liverpool from May 1988.

Yes indeed. That particular channel has some cracking footage from this period in the ECML's history, which I think includes some of the only footage (with sound) of a 84 drawing power from the overheads I'm aware exists; the one used as a load bank tester after withdrawal iirc. I can live with the unsteadiness in light of it's historical interest.

Bear in mind camcorders back in the 80s were nowhere near as “settled” as they are today…tricky beasts if I remember

They used to use the 91s as far as Leeds on the Cumbrian Mountain Express/Thames Eden charter trains to Carlisle via The S&C

the test trains initially went to Grantham from Bounds Green/Alexandra Palace/Kings Cross Freight Terminal, but then expanded to go to and from Retford and Doncaster
