They're used quite a lot - depends on the driver and as they're separately switched to the other (head)lights it does involve the driver actively turning them on in addition to the other lights, but at night and in low visibility it'll be on more often than not.
Fair enough, I've only seen them used once and I've seen quite a lot...

That's correct. Because they don't use the traditional Headlight+Marker setup. Instead they use a Full/Dipped configuration and Markers when required.

So you’d use the Full Beams at night while dipping them when crossing a train ?

Quick straw poll of the last five I've photted at night... and with the last one the driver turned it as it left Euston.

No. We've just been issued instructions for the twin headlights set up as fitment is about to start. You select the appropriate day/night setting and leave it. The day setting is brighter than the night setting. Even then the night setting is very bright.

MPVs, 456s, Turbos and some 66s with the latest clusters are unbearable at night, and that’s not even being said as a driver.

Oh I see. Would you say the low beam train headlights are brighter than high-beam car headlights ?

as driver9000 says. We generally just stick whatever is suitable up then leave it. LEDs are bloody bright and can be a bit of a distraction but I guess that is the point of having them, especially as yellow fronts have been removed. I reckon in a few years we will have a headlights that get brighter as it gets darker and will be almost fully automated.
