Does anyone know if there is a downloadable pub list for UK Wetherspoons? I know years ago they used to do the directory but I gather this is no longer published.

Don't know if this link to their own website is a complete list but certainly looks like all the Scottish ones are there:

That'll teach me to only read the first paragraph - I saw that but ruled it out because of the leading date - 08/12/2003, completely missing mention of Dublin Crosskeys which opened well after 2003 and dates for this year further down. Oops

856 at the moment but many of the ones I scored have closed over the years.

That's a lot of closures, especially given they have opened a fair few new ones in the last sort of 4-5 years particularly in Ireland.

Interesting, I just had a Google! It appears to be primarily aimed at those who misunderstood Tim Martin's message to his staff during Covid....

it is a good way to find a proper pub and is good advertising for the publicans. it is useful if in a new town especially if i forgot to check the good beer guide. I never use Weatherspoons: The beer is badly kept and the owner is a total balloon.

If you are happy with that crack on and spend your money. I am not.

It is primarily to point people away from Weatherspoons to decent pubs and in particular small independent ones. Seems fantastic to me. As for Tim Martin:

I think there is a lot of prejudice against Tim Martin just because of his views on Brexit.

People are free to boycott Wetherspoons for this reason of course, but do they seek the political views of the landlord of any other pub that they choose to visit?

I think there is nothing wrong with Wetherspoons pubs, and particularly in Central London, they provide some of the best value beer around at well under £4 a pint, which is good value considering that in some places you don't get any change out of £6.

Tim Martin has also been very vocal about some of the pointless lockdown restrictions which have hampered the hospitality sector, which is something that many people on this forum would support.

I would respect Martin more if he came out and said: I thought Brexit would make me more money.

As for other publicans - they don't tend to ram thier views down my throat. If they do I don't go in.

Actions have consequences. His stance on Brexit caused me to think about whether I wanted to frequent his establishment. Once I stepped back I realised there were better options more deserving of my money.

I didn't seek Tim Martin's political views, I had them forced on me by his in-house PR team and the Vote Leave lot

Thanks - i havent added them up but it gives a good number to avoid. As a CAMRA member I wish they were more interested in supporting local pubs and less in driving trade to Weatherspoons.

I know Weatherspoons have a lot of fans and that is cool if it is for you. I don't get the adoration and will avoid them. Martin and his vote leave stance started the process and I have simply found drinking in other pubs more enjoyable and provided me with a higher quality range of ales. I wish more people would do the same. You know what you are going to get in Weatherspoons and it no longer tempts me in.

PS my experiance of ale in spoonies is not in keeping with the PR guff. The quality is not what it should be. They also seem to have reduced thier range of ales down to one visitor and several like Doom Bar or Ruddles or Abbot. I know it is cheap but it is uninspiring.

PPS if you think my dislike of Weatherspoons is strong don't get me started on Greene King!

Personally I take as I find, the food does the job for me when i'm out and about for the day and i'm not particularly bothered about political views, but as with everything, that's just my opinion.

Like I said that is cool. I am not having a go at anyone for going in the place ( it isn't like they are selling bombs to the Russians!) but it isn't for me anymore.

Personally, the only time I'll consider a Wetherspoons is if I'm away with work, and getting to where I'm staying fairly late in the evening. Sometimes getting a proper meal (rather than takeaway or a supermarket meal deal) can be difficult, but at least Spoons serve food till late and the service is quick.

I prefer the Joseph Holt list, there's only about 130 odd pubs and the beer's usually excellent and reasonably priced and they don't stuff Brexit down your face.

I'm a regular visitor to spoons, I'm in one now as it happens. I also quite enjoy traveling a rail rover and getting a few units in spoons.

If you want to boycot a chain that's fine, but no need to claim every pub in a chain is as bad as the worst.

I wonder if many people tick off Sam Smiths pubs? I can only drink so much Sovreign.
