Try slagging off your boss online and see how approachable they are!

It'd be the same in any company - you used to be able to get away with messroom banter (as that left no trace) but when it's written down online then it's quantifiable and therefore something that the terms of conduct that you signed up to will have specifically addressed.

I don't b-tch about my job online because you never know who's watching/reading - same goes for everyone else.

It might be a private group chat, but you never know which of your colleagues is clipe-ing on you - it's not like other bus companies boast about having employees who moan about the organisation online - same rules for everyone.
Very true ,however as i said its hardly criminal in the Fred West terms of criminal behaviour .
And if it's a closed group there is surely a case to be made for GDPR guidelines being breached ? A big difference from "slagging your boss online in a public forum and saying or attempting a bit of humour within a closed private group .

You know the way accounts work though?

It's not like the £700,000 has to be accounted for in one go - it's a long term investment - it's an asset that they will be able to sell in future (maybe for slightly more, maybe for slightly less, but certainly has some resale value) - it's something that will remove the costs and complications of a lot of dead mileage - it may even be part of a longer term plan to shift more "west of Edinburgh" work out there, given the limitations on the current depots - it's probably no further from South Queensferry as Longstone is - given running on the M8 (instead of waiting at Gogar) it might be faster to get to/from Edinburgh Airport (than Longstone).

Compared to what they are spending on the E400XLBs, it's really not a huge cost.
It's been laid empty for months, last seen with travelling community taking residence and it is one of their places of residence ( imagine that )so not a massively saleable asset on that history .
It may remove a lot of dead mileage but it's no easier getting to Queensferry for 43 .

I'd certainly hope not, The 43 running from Deans is what killed the original First route

The 43 runs from Central, just a few hundred metres from one end of the 43 route, not Longstone. Obviously not ideal for all West Lothian services to run from Central given the morning/evening flows, but it works OK for the 43. Considering its history, I think Lothian would be acutely aware of the perils involved in running this route from Longstone, Deans, Dunfermline, or Linlithgow for that matter.

I always thought the Newbridge plan seemed like a smart move. Close(ish) to West Lothian, but ideal for Edinburgh’s inexorable move westwards. But the depot in Livingston is a statement of intent. God knows what the losses are like at the moment, but they seem willing to funnel money into this project. If Lothian are really willing to take a hit of several million, then they’ll win. Not much First can do about it. Although for the life of me, I can’t see why they seem so keen to muscle in. Maybe just a massive bet on West Lothian sharing some of Edinburgh’s economic stardust?

I have no particular insight to the situation, just a humble passenger, but I'm not convinced this is 'muscling in'. More like pre-empting a situation like they experienced in East Lothian.

So what's the deal with the Newbridge depot is that staying? could we see some longston route moved? I see no problem with 20, 43 or 63 moving hear. Heck it would cut down on dead millage.

first Scotland east have announced a fares” review “ from 24th March . Adult singles increase around 5% returns also ,period returns discontinued so only valid for the day of travel .
Interesting though is 2zone L,M 4 wk M ticket reduced from £90.10 to £82.00 and students weekly tickets in West Lothian reduced to £16.00 .
How are LCB going to respond to this I wonder
Oh and an M ticket day ticket for zone M offering a reduced price too .

Its not just West lothian that got the reductions falkirk and stirling have been given some big cuts aswell. Lothian were already overpriced to start with, I can't see the making them any cheaper..

Our Fares in West Lothian will change from Sunday 24th March
First West Lothian is making changes to their fares from Sunday 24th March, and are pleased to announce that the majority of fares are either reduced or frozen in price across the network.

The vast majority of our weekly and four weekly tickets are either frozen or reduced on mTicket and on-bus reflecting the value offered to our most loyal customers. Annual tickets are reduced, saving customers a massive £81.00 over the course of the year.

First West Lothian is continuing to offer its best value fares to customers when they are purchased tickets in advance of boarding the bus via the First Bus App. There is a reduction in the Zone L off-peak day ticket to just £3.50 when purchased on mticket – offering value to customers travelling off-peak and at weekends.

Click Here for First Midland Bluebird Changes
Here are some highlights:

  • Reductions or freeze on a wide range of our most popular tickets across the West Lothian network.
  • Introduction of a new Zone M day mTicket offering a reduction in on-bus fare.
  • Day tickets for multiple zones (L&M) are either frozen or reduced.
Graeme Macfarlan, Commercial Director for First Scotland East said: “Travel by First West Lothian offers better value for money than ever before and we continue to offer a wider range of fares, more flexibility of travel options and better ways to pay than our competitors. Now with the introduction of more ticket options along with our new Unlimited direct debit product, there really has never been a better time to take the bus.

“Our West Lothian operation has seen a significant rise in ‘smart’ payments in recent months, with over 60 per cent of our customers now using a ‘cashless’ method and we are responding to customer demand by offering further savings and incentives to customers purchasing tickets in advance via the First Bus app.

“We are currently undergoing a refurbishment and rebranding programme with our vehicles in the West Lothian area and we have heavily invested in technology as we continue to strive for excellence to improve overall customer experience. First West Lothian will continue to be the best value and number one choice for local bus travel in the region.”

The local bus operator, who have served the people of West Lothian for over 100 years, continue to invest heavily in technology as well as service improvements programmes and introduced new state-of-the-art ticket machines in April 2018, enabling customers to pay for their bus tickets in new ways, including via contactless, smart and mTicket. The new and improved First Bus app means customers can now plan their journeys, track their bus and buy their tickets all in the one place.

Over 60% of all journeys made are now paid for using cashless methods and with mTicket being twice as fast in comparison to purchasing a ticket from the driver, the business is continuing to do all it can to speed up journeys.

I assume if they do respond it will probably be another m-ticket bundle.. (instead of a non mobile ticket option) probably too busy with the move to deans and phase 4 to come up with something just now, I think maybe in the next few months we’ll get something.

Alas Zone L isnt West Lothian, since Linlithgow isn't in L

Zone L is Livingston area
Zone M is Edinburgh area.

https://www.firstgroup.com/uploads/maps/Scotland East Fare Zones.pdf

A few months will not cut the mustard with passengers, if people switch to First who are already cheaper than LCB and LCB make another half hearted attempt I think they will lost the chance,
Let's not be pedantic ....
what's West Lothian as Bathgate, Arnadale etc aren't Livingston area ..
Strangely Winchburgh is Zone L but Kirkliston is Zone M , something else First could he doing with revising to meet the times .

Time will tell on that whether LCB can make a viable business at £1.70 on such long distances.
Single fares were always to keep revenue from Concession scheme at max.
Be interesting to see if LCB can show any profit on the percentage of a £1.70 considering around 75% of their limited passengers during the day are concessionary card holders.

So a 7 day 2 zone L M ticket for a month with First is now £82 around £20.50 per week.
And the network 3/5 Zone is down to only £25 per week
Zone L down to £56 a month £14 per week if bought on Mticket , £60 , £15 per week otherwise .
Some decent value for regular passengers,be Interesting to see what further discounts are given to those taking up the Direct Debit option.

And which opp co is financing these 150 buses I can think of 150 reasons that it ain't gone happen, but stranger things have happened

Honestly the same company official told me that first were going to flood Lanarkshire with buses and they certainly have and it’s paying of for them big time as there making millions in Lanarkshire
And as I've said previously, First should just sit tight and hold out WL, coming to Edinburgh will kill any chance of them keeping WL. LC went to WL too late and are just pumping money into an operation that is affordable, but whether it is sustainable is a different question. There's a big difference on Lothian using there Edinburgh profits in WL than the other way around. If First come to Edinburgh LC win. It's as simple as that. If first stay put and hold out they've got the upper hand
