Don't know, could have dropped the VHF back to May if they needed to IMO without too many riots presuming the could have paid off VT/DfT to agree. Potentially shades of Railtrack corner-cutting here which is more worrying.
Overhead lines don't keep failing like that. The most reliable railways in the world in Japan and Switzerland (you know, the countries of ice and earthquakes) are almost all electrified with OHL. Unless its something peculiar to the WCML OHL design and the type of weather?
