This is the 9th fire at Trent Barton now since 2022 1.skylink 2.skylink 3.my15 4.red arrow 5.indigo 6.the threes 7.the cotgrave 8. My15 9.swift
Yes, but for completeness one ought to include the two Notts and Derby Scania deckers and Kinchbus Solo 7. Nobody seems to have updated Bustimes re Cotgrave 143 loss.

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's the one they repaired using parts from a second hand Versa, making this its second fire
There was the former Manchester Airport hybrid Versa for spares, maybe even parts from 819.

My15 Versa 804 has also gone up in flames last night. I saw the aftermath of it being towed back to the depot and the entire rear half of the vehicle is a burnt out shell
I thought My 15 Versa 803 also had a fire and rebuild as well as 804. Maybe the common link is Euro 6 engines running hotter than earlier.

Not quite
Red Arrow 75
Indigo 207
Threes Versa
Kinchbus Solo
Two N&D Deckers
My15 803 (repaired)
My15 804 (repaired)
Skylink 125
Cotgrave 143
Swift 737
My15 804 (again)

That brings the total up to 12. There were also 3 very minor incidents involving the fire brigade but I wouldn't count them as the vehicles involved were all back in service within a day or two of each incident

Oh well, so long as the drivers have regular training in how to evacuate a bus in 90 seconds. But are the fires getting more regular than they were? Red Arrow 75 would be about two years ago..

It seems highly likely they 804 won’t be repaired… again.

So this is now the 12th serious fires since July 2022, personally I do think the safety of some vehicles does need to be questioned…

I guess the root cause needs to be identified. All I hear where I am is why people have stopped catching Trentbarton buses. Fires never get a mention. Still surprised how many say they get a taxi instead, on a hot day (I just don't go out, or walk) But less passengers, or less passenger revenue might lead to a scenario where it impacted on the availability of parts. If you can't get said parts, what do you do to keep the service running?

Many older people in Nottinghamshire will remember Camms Coaches, which had a reputation for being unreliable and were regularly breaking down. They got the nick name Camms Collapsibles. With so many TrentBarton buses catching fire over the last few years will they become known as Trent Combustibles!

A few months ago I had to travel to Derby for a meeting. It was not in walking distance of the station, and I usually prefer to avoid taxis, so I looked at buses.

As an outsider, I found the website quite unintuitive. This is because everywhere else I go, I can work out which route number I need to get to my destination, and then work back from there. You can't do that with Trent Barton because they mostly don't have numbers for individual routes, and the brands (which mostly apply to groups of routes) are a poor substitute. It's not the end of the world, I figured it out eventually, and it probably makes sense if you're used to it, but I don't understand why they can't have a straightforward route numbering system alongside the brands like every other bus company in the country.

So I got to Derby made my way to the bus stop. The first bus didn't turn up. The second bus arrived at the stop and the driver shut it down and wondered off leaving it parked there for several minutes, at which point the third bus arrived, overtook the second bus and drove off empty. I'm not sure what happened next as I then had to go and find a taxi to avoid being late.

On the way back I did actually manage to get a bus. The on board information screens and announcements were broken. Also, since it didn't serve the station I asked the driver where buses to the station went from and he had no idea! Bizarre.

The bus to the station, it turned out, was a "Skylink". At least that seemed to work fairly well. Although the information screens and announcements were also broken on this one.

This would be a poor show for any bus company, and is diabolical for the self-styled "really good" one. If this is the sort of experience regular passengers can expect, it is no wonder if people are going out of their way to avoid using them.

A lot of people say it is best to avoid taxis in Derby, but that is a different subject. I guess it depends where you are going from the railway station. In some ways it surprises me that such a key bus stop, doesn't have one of those electronic displays showing when the next buses will arrive and where they are going. Some buses pass through the railway station bus stop, some drive past without stopping, some terminate there and restart after a while. I guess a route brand works when the destination doesn't. Seen a few Sixes Versas with dodgy front blinds, but equally some 24 plated ADLs. You may know it is going where you want to. As a matter of interest, where were you going?

I remember being at Nottingham Victoria one day. A Camms Metropolitan double decker came in, seemingly dragging its water pump. I went to mention it to the driver in case it was a problem. He just replied "you didn't get scolded, did you?" And then he walked off

I seem to remember someone somewhere mabey on a article or something, said a cause of a bus fire in the past (mabey the cotgrave fire?) was something to do with the biofuel trent are using. And im not saying all these fires are related and are the same cause, but one would think they would of switch suppliers after so many incidents just to eliminate one possible area of concern but doubt it knowing TrentBarton.
I'm surprised after all these fires in such a small time frame, the dvla don't look into how there maintained though, although I was surprised about the B7RLE going up in flames as they seem to be fine after everything trent puts them through and never seem to have as much issues in terms of reliability compared to versas and mmcs.
Always loved the B7s and more so of the scania L94s and they never really had as much problems as theses lighterweight E200 MMC's and other lighter bus models. Be surprised after as many mmcs they have been through if there not looking at different makes now such as the evora even if the specs ain't what trent wanted.

I think that this being the first Volvo fire across the entire fleet since they were new says a lot about the quality of them. I was having a think about what else Trent could look at, of course you’ve got the yutongs but electric is expensive so without funding I don’t think they’d be a first choice and even then it’s likely the routes that need newer would get cascaded busses. Evoras often gets floated around in forums and on Facebook. Wright GB Hawks? Or any other ideas of what could be looked at for future fleet replacements, I think the days of ADL are coming to the end after their incidents.

What’s the future of the my15 as the vehicles on there are clearly quite tired now. Any possibilities that 745 could come back to Trent to help out as 742 has gone for repaint to ND?

Any updates on the ex-skylinks yet?

I would have thought Euro 6 engines might cause issues. Run hotter to burn exhaust gases, maybe plastics close to hot engines ignite, melt with fuel onto hot engines, but who knows?

I think it was in this thread if I remember correctly.

There is the potential that the biodiesel could potentially deteriorate fuel lines/connectors depending on the materials used which would ultimately cause a fuel leak, if it leaked on to a hot part of the engine fire is inevitable. It does beg the question as to if this is or is not a potential cause if there has been works carried out to the involved vehicles over the past few months and the incorrect parts have been used.

You would assume however that given they would know what fuel they are using that the correct parts would be ordered.

I’m sure 143s fire was confirmed as caused by a faulty fuel line which is what triggered the speculation about the biofuel - it is a realistic and likely possibility.

The only single-deck diesel buses currently in production in the uk, which I can think of which they may consider excluding the E200 MMC, is that Wright GB Hawk, Volvo MCV eVoRa, and that scania fencer f1 thing if that's still going.

There was a rumor in this forum I think, the 14 plate versas have been rumored to either get scattered about (as spares I presume) or they will go to the my15 when sixes get the B8RLE's if the two gets the ex skylink MMC's.

I'm curious to how much use this will get and if will even replace some diagrams that currently use single Deckers mostly such as route 27, 59, 71 ect (obviously ecluding the obvious such as rollsroyce, royal derby, school contacts which use deckers sometimes anyway) as I assume the maintance and cost of running it will be much lower than what's currently running them.

It’s a shame that excluding the evora the others are in small numbers but I think any adl can be ruled out now. Will be interested to see how any future orders play out.

Considering the amount of fires recently how does this affect Trent Barton vehicle wise have they still got enough vehicles to make service at the moment? What's replacing the vehicles recently lost due to the various fires recently?

More than enough. They will just carry on. Services on many routes will just not run and the company will either say the bus isn't tracking (ghost buses) or they have no drivers. Basically pot luck. Matters not to those who have alternatives, but hurts those that don't. Got no parts, can't afford parts, got no drivers, got no mechanics, can't afford drivers cos we can't pay them more than Aldi, certainly can't afford mechanics, but no matter, got no parts. End result? Got no passengers. That all said, the less buses/drivers you have , the more you sweat your assets. No, the assets not the passengers. PS. I am still amazed how many people have told me they don't catch Trentbarton on a hot day or get a taxi. To be honest, that is me too.

Can't get the EvoRa cos sales are off the scale. I understand ADL may have received some big orders from Arriva and First bus, with Stagecoach veering more to Yutong for single deckers. A contact at ADL Scarborough is mighty relieved.

I'll not publicise my exact destination (purely for privacy reasons), but it was out of the city to the north... I recall the route I needed was one of "the sixes". I was already in Derby centre before the outbound journey but I need to get to the station afterwards.

My understanding is that 1405 is not finished. The Zeebus website suggests it is going to be used as a demonstrator and to be used on trial.

I personally think that this would be a good idea. Having travelled on an E200 (24 plate) on the 6.1 recently i can say that the ride was very choppy with a few rattles as a result of poorer road surfaces. They're city buses really. The 14 plate Versas are nice vehicles and suit the route better, but over time the nature of the route has taken its toll, but they're definitely not so knackered they can't be of use elsewhere. Heavyweight Volvos would suit the route well I think, and I imagine the Skylink's will suit the Two as well since its a bit more urban.

Where I live, you get a worse ride on an E200 than you do on any Optare or Volvo, even on the same section of road. If the Twos are fortunate to get the Skylink Enviros, the Sixes will be happy with the Volvos, more than happy. Then the Twos passengers will say "The Aircon isn't working on my buses".
