I completely agree with Meld on this.
Today I managed to get hold of a second hand copy (yes already) from the company I used to work for, and I am so thankful I have 15 days to return it! You can't seriously believe this is worth its money!?
I'll agree with people when they say it has potential, but come on! What happened to all those lovely looking 3D cabs for a start? All I see is a horribly put together rushed hand drawn cab, which even make the very early BVE2 ones look better!
Then you have the bugs such as missing passengers, scenery and signals etc. Basics that should of been thought of first, surely!?
Sounds are just better than MSTS, but there's still room for improvement.
Then its just the even simpler things like giving you more information. Why can't I find out for the scenarios which train I will be driving, how long the route is and how long it should take to complete, without having to go into the folder to look at a PDF file!? And speaking of the scenarios, they are absolutely boring! Little AI traffic, some not visually pleasing or particularly challenging, but the ones that are challenging give very little information on what you're actually supposed to be doing...
And finally the trains themselves. Probably the best part of the sim. They feel a lot more like you'd expect a train to, compared to MSTS, but they are still pretty bad. One thing that gripes me is the brakes. It feels like they work in time rather than the actual pressure they apply. They either perform too well or not well enough!
I just wish Kuju/EA would address these problems instead of coming out with the corporate speak. I know its only been out for a few days, and even then they probably only got to hear what people thought today, but just a note to say something like; "yes, we are still here, we are sorry for the problems you are experiencing and we will fix them ASAP", would be nice...
Oh, and I don't know what Kuju/EA are thinking, but I don't think they realise what an influence on others reviews like this in the railway community are making.
