I'm sure it'll be turned soon, either at Edinburgh (round the 'Edinburgh suburban line' on an empty coaching stock movement [ECS]) or at Newcastle (you can head southbound by initially heading either west or east, using either bridge).Noticed a VTEC set heading south yesterday with the 91 at southern end, and again heading north on Sunday afternoon (think it was 1S22 KX - Edinburgh).
Not sure of the number, just saw it flash by at a level crossing.
You'd be hard pushed to turn it on the sub; it isn't electrified. Turning is via the High Level bridge at Newcastle only.I'm sure it'll be turned soon, either at Edinburgh (round the 'Edinburgh suburban line' on an empty coaching stock movement [ECS]) or at Newcastle (you can head southbound by initially heading either west or east, using either bridge).
Most likely it went out of Newcastle via a different bridge to the one it arrived on.Just curious how it had turned, can't recall seeing one this way round in recent years. I know there's a few places it could happen.

1E05 is thunderbird hauled today, dont think its linked tho...
happens all the time - most obvious turning point: Newcastle
When there are Newcastle-Edinburgh shuttles due to Engineering they often turn the sets round-as some of us know coming in with first at the London end into Waverley platform 1, 2 or 7 is a bloody long walk!
The firsts are normally at the London end aren't they?
Correct.
Exactly so why is it an issue with the poster concerned?
I was saying in the sense that when they are self-contained NCL-EDB shuttles they turn them so first is at the Edinburgh end as the London ends of Waverley platforms 1,2 and 7 are quite a walk to civilisation.
Maybe the train should always reverse direction at Newcastle so First Class is at the correct end at both Edinburgh and London?
Isn't it the other way round?Due to the layout, you can only reverse the set when going southbound.
Heading south, you can take the country end out over the high level bridge. Heading north, no matter which route you take around, you'll always face the same way.

I figured out what you meant - when you said north/south you meant the direction of movement on leaving Newcastle. Because you can arrive into Newcastle via the High Level Bridge as well - XC has at least one daily northbound service that does this.No. You come in from the north DVT first, change to 91 and go out over the high level, around the back and then head south.
And then laugh when the service goes into either platform 19 or 20 so FC passengers have a long walk![]()
Or drive the 91 round the HLB before stopping at Newcastle and move into the DVT. Back north you go.
Not sure how I didn't even consider that!
Ah well.
Can and do. When the lines between Haymarket and Waverley are closed. Though most commonly they serve Haymarket as well so it only runs in reverse formation between Waverley and Haymarket. If you really wanted to, I don't see why you couldn't turn an HST via the sub lines. For example: arrive at Waverley, reverse, round the sub, come out the north facing connection and continue north.
