There are a couple of Birmingham to Euston services, which are booked for 221s.

Also 15:23 Euston Wolves/17:45 Wolves Euston.

More madness. 1745 ex Wolves is 1810 ex BHM. What a time to have a 5car leaving New Street, we were crushed in like sardines, thankfully just going to COV.

The 1810 from New Street - Euston (currently a 5 car Voyager) wasn't too packed at all the couple of times I caught it. No hassle getting a seat and most people leave the train at Cov.

So you'd support increasing fares for everyone who doesn't buy the overpriced any operator ticket? No thank you. I don't mind who's cheaper than who, but we should have the choice.

But if there is no service with the relevant TOC for 44 minutes each hour, that effectively eliminates choice. So may as well go the whole hog. Besides, I've noticed people here are more inclined to have the Any Permitted these days as they're not travelling as often.

An Off-Peak Day Return priced at just under 1/5th of the weekly season, which has gone up a grand total of £2 in five years, is overpriced?

At 21p per mile it's overpriced. At 50% more than the VT or LM only ticket it's overpriced. The fact that it hasn't gone up much in five years just shows how much it was overpriced 5 years ago. LM, who set the fare, obviously know that it is seen as being overpriced otherwise they would have increased it by the maximum amount possible over the last 5 years.

Compare this with an off peak day return from Oxford to London - a journey that is 30% further but costs only £2 more (and is also about 1/5th of the weekly season).

Or an off peak day return from Leeds to Manchester, 5 miles further but £5 cheaper. Also about 1/5th of the weekly season.

If you ever travel from MK you'll know most people will choose one-operator tickets, many choosing each choice. If people are using both choices, why take one away? I for one will keep buying Virgin-only tickets.

Without a railcard a day travelcard either operator costs almost £30. If Virgin offer it for £20 then why not have that choice? I love using it. £10 to avoid LM trains I would avoid anyway.
