Hey Guys

Tomorrow morning, I'm taking a trip out to Penrith and coming back Sunday afternoon/ evening.
Tomorrow, I will be getting a service from Cross Gates to Preston which I know will be a Northern 158. From Preston, I will be getting the 1353 Virgin Trains Service to Penrith. This is a service from Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh. I assume this will be a 221?

On the Sunday, I will be getting the 1622 service from Penrith to Preston followed by the 1737 Northern rail service to Cross Gates. I know again that the 1737 will be a 158 but I assume the 1622, as it is an Edinburgh to Birmingham New Street service, will be a 221?

Anyone able to help?

All Scotland-Birmingham and vice versa WCML VT services are scheduled to be 220/221, aside from when it's high summer or the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (which it isn't now!), but if you are lucky, you may get to travel on the new ex-4-car-now-5-car Voyager. On Thursday, stuff was still a bit dodgy from Scotland onto Carlisle etc, so watch out with connections!

Yep it all looks right to me. All Birmingham-Scotland Virgin services should be formed of Super Voyagers. I've not seen any short notice substitutions by Pendos myself, but I know it has happened a couple of times.

Enjoy your journey. :)

Am i correct in saying Virgin only have (5-car now) 221s? Thought they did due to the need for TASS in the schedule.

Hey guys

Me service from Preston to Penrith on the Saturday was a doubled up Voyager, 221114 and 221118. I ended up catching 158792 from Cross Gates to Preston. I caught 221114 to Lancaster then jumped off that to get on the front unit, 221118, to Penrith. If you want to see the photos, they are here:

On the way, just after Shap Summit, I passed Shapfell Limeworks which had a shunter inside of some form. Is this shunter under TOPS?

As for the way back, I ended up getting dropped off in Manchester and catching 185112 to Leeds then 158816 back to Cross Gates

Thanks for all your help guys

Isn't much of the tilt mechanism also the stabiliser system for those bogies? To truly save weight they'd get the same bogies as the 220s made and fitted- making them 220s.
