well they are manufactured both by Paxman, so that'll have something to do with it, cos MTUs of course are Brush. It's like 465 networkers sound different, dependent on if they have ABB or GEC motors, GEC ones are generally louder, and sound really high when they start

I would have said MTUs were more of a throbbing sound than a booming sound myself.

Hope you get 046 tomorrow then and that she's screaming her guts out! Mind, if you do please do put it on YouTube!

EDIT: Miles, MTUs are of a German design/origin...:p

Hi,

It would be much appreciated if somebody could get some gen on which Valenta Powercars are on what trains tomorrow, so I can try and work out some sort of move on Saturday to cover them.

I think that is a fair summary. MTU do provide the engine electronics, but basically power car electrical system is Brush.

Been out spinning again today, had 046 as it is garunteed to be on the same diagram all the time as it's tied to the master cutler set. Over on the ECML all three Kings Cross - Aberdeen services had a valenta on them today, 056 was TGS end on the 1030 ex KGX, 051 TGS end on the 1400 ex KGX and 110 was allox on the 1600 ex KGX and is on the FC end (although I didn't see this set). Therefore out of Aberdeen tomorrow both morning departures 0752 & 0950 (?) will have a valenta on them, whatever works the 0752 is diagramed to go back to Aberdeen tomorrow on the 1600 ex KGX so it should mean that one of the Saturday morning sets from Aberdeen will have a valenta on for anyone doing the tyne valley diverts. 43053 is now back out (hasn't been out to play the last few days) and today did the 1130 KGX-NCL and 1555 rtn (I had it Darlington to the Cross and it sounded on top form). Will try and get the valenta gen again tomorrow ragardless of whether i'm going out again and let you know, hope that helps for now!

You're correct Class313, Brush are nothing to do with MTU.

MTU are what eventually evolved from from Maybach, who provided power units for Hymeks, Westerns and Warships. Maybach was acquired by what is now DaimlerChrysler in 1960 and are now in the hands of private equity group.

MTU has some considerable engineering pedigree, having been founded by Ferdinand von Zeppelin, Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler.

As far as i'm aware there is no definate diagram for the Cutler set of a Saturday, it may not even be out but if it is it'll be on a Leeds starter diagram as thats where it finishes Friday night.

So where she goes tomorrow is still unknown, but since she finishes at Neville Hill tonight off the 2130 Kings Cross to Leeds, she'll be on the 0710 Leeds to Aberdeen, 0744 Harrogate to Kings Cross, 0642 Skipton to Kings Cross or 0700 Hull to Kings Cross I reckon.

I saw 046 today at Derby, I'm sure Rich can say the departure, but it grunted pretty nice. 082 just clagging away at Chesterfield with 083 being notched straight into 3 at Luton. Videos to come.

Neither of EMT's Valentas (46 or 64) out today, text HP this morning to try and find out as i could then plan my time in order to leave London on a Valenta, in the end it was 43060 & 43076 on the 1745 ex STP.

64 not been out since about last Friday, presume its off a set? 46 was tied to the cutler rake which may not have been out today? Dunno to be honest, all I know was neither of them were working!

046 is on the cutler rake at the moment, with 43066 on the other end (can't remember which is at the TGS) and 43064 has been on shed for at least a week, I assume that they will be paired so that when they go to be VP'd they don't have to bother with re-arranging the others. However, I reckon they are going to wait until 43089 joins the fleet so they can still have an extra PC available if needs must. if they run out then they could use just the one PC on a set :lol: (not being serious for those who are pedantic;))

it's not as loud as 43064 :( still nice when the driver powers up through the high tunnels on Derby-Sheffield :lol:

Not that it will be a lot of help to anyone, but 43110 and 296 should be on tonight's Skipton. Rather envious, I have to say!
