I always used to be able to select "use desktop site" on the first page when entering my journey requirements. Then that option disappeared, and I had to click on a drop-down menu in the top right hand corner of the second page, and select "desktop site" from there, after which I had to go back to the first page, and repeat my search, which would then bring up the desktop format.

For the last few weeks however, any search automatically defaults to what I assume is the mobile app view, and the drop-down menu now only gives two options: Personal Details and My Bookings. It is nigh on impossible to get to the desktop view, where I could look at all the options and price brackets before selecting, and not just have to scroll through endless and mostly unhelpful lists of timed trains. It still works fine on my MacBooks, it's just an iPhone problem.

I have used their Feedback click-through twice to ask about this, but had no contact nor seen any reversion to the old system.

I don't understand why anyone would choose the app view layout, unless they are wanting to travel immediately and need to know the next departure. In all other situations most people want to book a while ahead, and the mobile app version doesn't work for this, unless you are willing to spend ages fiddling around with it.

It is of course possible that there is something in my personal settings that has caused this problem, in which case can anyone suggest how I might reverse it? If however this is a general website change, how do others get around the limitations of the phone app version? Is there any way of forcing the desktop site to load on an iPhone? Or is it just me making heavy weather of it?

Well if the option is still there I'm blowed if I can find it. I wonder whether other iPhone users have any ideas.

Thanks for replying so promptly yorkie! :D

Edit to add: It's an iPhone SE, on iOS 9.3.5. I'm hesitant to install iOS 10 as I've read bad things about it.

Edit 2: Woohoo, should have read your link before replying. Tapping and holding the refresh bar does the trick! Thank you so much, that's resolved a problem that was seriously annoying me. :D :D :D

There should be a 'Request desktop site' option on your web browser software, irrespective of any options on the website you're visiting.

I posted just ahead of you, so thanks again, I'm sorted :D .

Excellent service as usual!

edit yet again... oh oh, the option is coming up but it isn't working. Just re-booting the phone to see if that helps. :(

... Nope, not working for me. Still getting mobile site all the time. Back to the drawing board :( .

Get an Android phone instead. Then you should be able to do this...

You can't really mess up an iPhone, it's pretty locked down! No harm in installing a couple of different browsers like Firefox or chrome, then just delete them if you don't get on with them :)

There is a browser called Puffin which you can download from the app store.

This will almost certainly take you straight to the desktop site.

I noticed a lot of sites these days ignore the 'Request Desktop Site' option on iPhone, gets rather annoying!

Thank you! I have just installed Puffin, and it asked me while doing so whether I prefer desktop or mobile sites, so of course I selected desktop. Tried out eastcoast, and it immediately gave me the desktop with no messing around :D .

Only thing is, it tells me I am using an outdated version of the browser, and would I like to upgrade to the current one? I'm a bit wary in case doing that wipes out the desktop and replaces it with the flipping mobile site, so I will stick with the other one for now!
