I held a zones 1-3 annual Travelcard purchased from the TfL visitor centre in St. Pancras late last year, valid from 01•JNR•20 to 31•DMR•20. I refunded this online last month via the Oyster website as I am not travelling for the foreseeable future. The Oyster card was last used on 16•MCH•20. The ticket was priced at £1,648. The TfL site made reference at the time to the fact that ticket refunds would be backdated to the last day of use and that the admin fee would be refunded separately.
Bearing in mind the dates of use I considered that I had used a 2 month 16 day Travelcard which would have cost 9.73 times £41.20 = £400.90.
I therefore expected to receive back about £1,242.10 (acknowledging the £5 refund fee) but only received £1,173.30 (plus the PAYG balance and £3 card deposit in each case, which I have taken off for ease of discussion). This seems to suggest that TfL has not offered me the “odd period” rate but has calculated based on the cost of three full months. They do sell “odd period” Travelcards on their site, so I am not clear as to why they have calculated it this way. I am therefore out just over £70. Whilst the sum is not a huge amount in my context, I still would like the full amount to which I am entitled.
Assuming my calculations are correct, I have contacted TfL twice via web form and a number of times over the phone. The web form gets acknowledged but no further response is forthcoming, and the phone either rings out or is on hold indefinitely. It is now six weeks since my last journey, and I am concerned that if it goes on for two weeks more without any action, the records of the date of my last journey will no longer be available – I stupidly failed to print off a statement before refunding the card, which is now of course gone from my online account – and they will refuse the remainder of the refund on the grounds that there is no proof of the last use of the card.
Does anyone have a way to contact TfL which will actually yield a response?
