Unusual Working For FTPE

Ta, yet ANOTHER thing to fit in on a Sunday at some point! So much happens on Sundays it seems! A deeper perusal of the PSUL when armed with my Baker is deemed necessary by the looks of it, as I never saw this one before!

It would appear to me, as a very much Southern Softie, to be pretty rare, any Northerners have an opinion on the rarity of it?

I'm pretty sure I've done it once, in the other direction, but can't remember the details. I may well turn out for it one Sunday as well, to make sure.

I would say it's a very rare move, unlike Leeds to York via Castleford, which happens regularly.

Yeah, Leeds to York via Castleford is booked for a fair number of trains, fair dos. This move over Milford Junction > Gasgoine Wood Junction looked rare, so going to try and fit it in with a move over Lichfield TV > Wichnor Junction one Sunday.

TPE 170s are certainly better than TPE 158s!

It is a fairly common railtour curve, which is how I have managed to do it. For service trains though, it is very rare, due to the fact that there is no overnight Hull service. However, now that crews have been trained on it, I reckon it will retain a similar route retainer. There is also talk elsewhere on this board of upgrading the junction at Micklefield, so there is a good chance of at least a weekend of diversions then.
Also, presumably now the curve has a passenger service, it would need to go through full closure proceeding. Saying that, this may not mean an awful lot, as we have seen in West London.

It is rare, but it's not been unheard of recently. Sunday TPE services were diverted over this route on some Sundays last summer due to engineering works, and I managed to do it on an emergency diversion due to a broken down train in the Garforth area. It's good that TPE have the option to use the route at short notice though!

What your think of (I think) is a single self contained diagram that leaves Manchester about 1am, and returns from Sheffield at about half past 3.

definately saw one fly east past Chinley about 1130 one day, presumably the 1211 off sheffield, but you could be right
